That's not what I wanted to do.
May as well just remove the engine as it needs a rebuild anyway after losing a rod bearing.
Wanted to see which one went before doing the major removal |

Couple of the allen bolts are hidden by the engine mounts, but not hard. _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

Is this done simply by loosening the nuts top and bottom on the rubber mount? Or do I have to also loosen the bolts holding the bracket to block? I’m guessing the latter cause I’ve loosened the 3 nuts on the rubber mount but now the mount is loose but the oil pan is still hung up on the bracket which is still rock solid in place. _________________ 1980 - 931 |

I don't get it.
I didn't mess with my engine mounts at all while replacing my oilpan gaskets.
Things to get caught up on are that high bellhousing bolt on the left side of the car and the dipstick if you forget about it.
Other than that drop the Xmember and the oilpan comes off ?? _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

The oil pan is completely loose. All the bolts are out. The pan just wiggles around but it won’t come down cause the edge is caught up against the mounting bracket. Thoroughly frustrated. _________________ 1980 - 931 |

Engine mounting to block needs to be loosened to give room to drop _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Figured as such. Now I have to remove the intake to get to the bolts unless there’s a secret I’m not aware of. Luckily this is not a daily driver so I can take my time.
Probably should’ve just taken the engine out. _________________ 1980 - 931 |

Here’s where it’s hung up, for those wondering. The lip of the pan is caught against the bend in the bracket...

Did them all from underneath or from the front of the engine bay. Cannot remember, i might have removed the bracket from block to intake _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

I guess I better check to see if my engine mount is tight in my inspection before I go to fire her back up this year. I've done the oilpan job twice.
Their are 2 bolts that attach the dipstick tube to the intake bracket with a little clamp thing. I take it off there. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

I removed the bracket holding the intake to the block. I tried getting at the 3 bolts on the engine mount bracket, but there was no way to get at them. The brake booster, master cylinder, engine harness, etc. were still in the way. Had to use multiple universal joints just to get a socket on, but still couldn’t get it seated properly. I opted to just remove the intake. I honestly don’t know how to loosen them otherwise. Once loosen the pan came down with ease. What a royal pain in ass this job was.
You can see the 3 bolts I’m talking about below.
Here’s a photo of a tab on the oil pan that was keeping it from coming down.
Here’s a shot of the slot in the engine mount where the tab above sits.
