|
|
Well after years of trying LT found a way to make a very light car. First take it all apart , yes all apart , when you have a body with no glass doors etc all stuff out you can take out. Put the tub on a bed of sand and build a cinder block wall all aroung car ; only takes about 200! Then take kero heater gun and heat to 300plus degrees for several hours. Let car cool and you have a legal light car , not dipped , not heatd to hurt metal and very very light because every thing that is not metal is charcoal. Vaccum sandblast and prime . anyway LT read it somewhere or did it or maybe thought it up I do not know. If you want to try it let us know how it works for you . I forgot to mention, use tin or steel siding and insulation to build a sandwich and hold down with other blocks for roof please do not share this info with the 944 guys , you know how bad they cheat! they will be building light cars and putting lead in cross membe and front etc oops ! maybe I should not have said that _________________ jesse wall 'new driver' , 87 924s

?????? so build an oven, cook your car at 350 for four hours and melt off everything... might as well throw a turkey in there while your at it, so the Porsche and dinner will be done around the same time... _________________ Eric

LOL! Yeah, 350 will only melt 'er down... 451+ will be needed to burn it up! Which I wouldn't recommend, I'd be concerned about roof brazes dying, aluminum weakening, etc...
But we will be taking another shot at taking weight out of the car this spring again... maybe more undercoating to grind off, etc... will keep all posted on the results!! _________________ Vaughan Scott

I called them, they would only be interested if the car was a 944. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Don't think your local environmental agency would approve of the
un-controled emissions from such a bake off |

DIY heat treatment... I wonder if shot peening every inch of the body and chassis can be done to add structural rigidity to the body. That way, not only it is lighter, but bulletproof! Don't forget to reapply the zinc coating (I'm pretty sure the paint would peel off). _________________ What I think Steve McQueen meant in "Le Mans" was life is all about taking risks and challenges, just like racing. here's yet another idea probabbly gona get flamed for thid one but it might work in the same manner and it is deffinatly less harmfull on the enviornment.
1. Strip the car down completely to hte steel.
2. have your local powdercoat shop bake it in their oven to remove all the crap you cant scrape off.
3. powdercoat is lighter than regular paint, so is carbon fiber.
just my 2 cents,
let me know how it turns out, it should cost about the same as building your own oven and trying to heat it. _________________ 78 924
