My <2 year old Bosch 984 fuel pump unexpectantly passed away last week and I`m now running on my 30 yo original spare. After reading the tech section and searching previous threads decided to chase up the allegedly more reliable and definitely quieter Pierburg replacement.
Problem is that whereas they were US$125 at a source linked in another thread, the seller now only carries the Bosch ones and quoted $100 more for the Pierburg. Can`t find one on ebay either.
So can anyone suggest an economical source for these pumps?
It is the main fuel pump I am referring to here, with the 12mm Dia inlet and the M12 female outlet. Only really need 3 bar as its feeding EFI, but understand the listed alternative is 5 bar as is the stock Bosch one.
Any suggestions or other options will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Roger |

This might be useful - http://www.ms-motor-service.com/ximages/pg_pi_0034_en_web.pdf
The last page lists a few 3.0 bar pumps that are probably about right for EFI.
"7.21565.70.0" is 3.0 bar, with a 12mm inlet, and M10x1 female threaded outlet.
"7.21565.71.0" has a larger inlet at 15mm (pressure and outlet size are the same as above).

I'm pretty sure the days of $125 Pierburg 924 CIS pumps are long gone. Those days were already gone when I got mine a few a years ago. I paid about $180-$190. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

After wasting a few hours of time searching the net, I must agree with you there Smoothie. Thanks for the links and reference.
There is a pump for a Merc on ebay for just under $200 but the fitting size is different and more trouble than its worth changing it IMO. Still cant find one less than $225. So not real sure which way to go. May yet just get another 984 Bosch for Au$180?

$150 HERE. Also, Shokan carries them, as well as Zim's. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I`m curious about that too Eric. Fairly sure its not a Bosch. Looks like the cheap Chinese imitations that are floating around ebay and probably the same as Specialty Auto sell for DeLoreans that Rasta linked to in another thread.
Personally I don`t want a cheap POS pump. Not very impressed with the Bosch ones either. I want a reliable one at a good price, and if its quieter that`ll be a bonus.
SAP Auto, Florida only appear to handle Bosch now and charge a premium to obtain and supply the Pierburg.

Well looks like they are pricing themselves out of the market. After wasting more time on the net found that they are US$179 at Zim`s and shipping to Australia is $29. Appears to be the best price around but will be happy to be corrected. Quickly!
Will order one from them. Thank you for the lead Rasta.

RockAuto's showing a pic of what looks like the Pierburg 6bar pump under their "Beck-Arnley" $99.79 [Wholesaler Closeout -- 30 Day Warranty] pump. It -might- actually be a Pierburg..

Thank you very much Smoothie for your quick reply.
It certainly looks like a Pierburg, and I can read the "burg" on the picture. Have sent an email for confirmation first and am keeping my fingers crossed.

Yup that one above is the Pierburg... identical to the one I purchased from Mr. Fuel Pump Inc. as a back up last year.
Mr. Fuel Pump ..... SAP.... same company different name.
Funny there is one sticker on the box saying "Made in USA".... then another sticker saying "Kraftstoffpumps" and seems to be from Spain. You might want to search on that.

Sure, nothing like old growth North American forests getting logged and pulped to produce fibre packaging for foreign products.
Didn`t get much confirmation of the brand from Rock Auto.

Thank you for your interest in our products. Beck/Arnley will not release
information regarding who the part comes from if they do not manufacture the
part in-house, so I do not know if this pump is originally manufactured by
Pierburg. However, this part will carry the Beck/Arnley warranty. Feel free
to contact us if you have any further questions.
Thank you,

Anyway, trust their pics are correct and so ordered a couple of them for myself and another Aussie board member.
A big thank you Smoothie from down under for that link.

Yeah I even suprise myself with a good find now and then. Well, if it is an actual Pierburg, it's a good find..
Pierburg fuel pumps are actually made in Fountain Inn, South Carolina -
http://www.pierburginc.com/kp_pressrelease20050406.html?lang=3&fid=377
They (KS-Pierburg) also make water pumps, oil pumps, bearings, pistons, engine blocks in North America -

Well apparently, Pierburg fuel pumps are made in at least USA, Spain and Germany.
I recieved one of those "Beck-Arnley" pumps from RockAuto today and it is actually a made-in-Germany Pierburg. No smell of gasoline from it, just some nicks where someone had used a wrench on the fitting to attach it to the pump. It's clean, apparently new (or NOS) - just had been opened, then maybe returned before being used, then Beck-Arnley repackaged them and cut the price...
Those are my own fingerprints on the box - otherwise everything's new and clean.
The first 6 digits of the part number "7.21659." indicate it is a 6.5 bar pump with 12mm inlet and female M10x1 outlet that's correct for the 924NA and 931 with CIS.
