My <2 year old Bosch 984 fuel pump unexpectantly passed away last week and I`m now running on my 30 yo original spare. After reading the tech section and searching previous threads decided to chase up the allegedly more reliable and definitely quieter Pierburg replacement.

Problem is that whereas they were US$125 at a source linked in another thread, the seller now only carries the Bosch ones and quoted $100 more for the Pierburg. Can`t find one on ebay either.

So can anyone suggest an economical source for these pumps?

It is the main fuel pump I am referring to here, with the 12mm Dia inlet and the M12 female outlet. Only really need 3 bar as its feeding EFI, but understand the listed alternative is 5 bar as is the stock Bosch one.

Any suggestions or other options will be appreciated.

The last page lists a few 3.0 bar pumps that are probably about right for EFI.
"7.21565.70.0" is 3.0 bar, with a 12mm inlet, and M10x1 female threaded outlet.
"7.21565.71.0" has a larger inlet at 15mm (pressure and outlet size are the same as above).

I'm pretty sure the days of $125 Pierburg 924 CIS pumps are long gone. Those days were already gone when I got mine a few a years ago. I paid about $180-$190.

$150 HERE. Also, Shokan carries them, as well as Zim's.

The one in Florida is where I got one recently. It is still in the box awaiting its day. Figured to get one while they were still decent prices. Good thing I did!

But as I recall they also had a Ebay account. They referenced it when I called. Though they did scr=w me on the shipping. Cost me an extra $10 for the ship than what they quoted. My local post office billed me.

RockAuto's showing a pic of what looks like the Pierburg 6bar pump under their "Beck-Arnley" $99.79 [Wholesaler Closeout -- 30 Day Warranty] pump. It -might- actually be a Pierburg..

It certainly looks like a Pierburg, and I can read the "burg" on the picture. Have sent an email for confirmation first and am keeping my fingers crossed.

Yup that one above is the Pierburg... identical to the one I purchased from Mr. Fuel Pump Inc. as a back up last year.

Mr. Fuel Pump ..... SAP.... same company different name.

Funny there is one sticker on the box saying "Made in USA".... then another sticker saying "Kraftstoffpumps" and seems to be from Spain. You might want to search on that.

Yeap, Pierburg is the only supplier for the BMW Plant in greer/SC.
So,german technologie, quality build in the us.......
Have no issue with my Z3 so far, US build also.....

Well apparently, Pierburg fuel pumps are made in at least USA, Spain and Germany.

I recieved one of those "Beck-Arnley" pumps from RockAuto today and it is actually a made-in-Germany Pierburg. No smell of gasoline from it, just some nicks where someone had used a wrench on the fitting to attach it to the pump. It's clean, apparently new (or NOS) - just had been opened, then maybe returned before being used, then Beck-Arnley repackaged them and cut the price...
Those are my own fingerprints on the box - otherwise everything's new and clean.
The first 6 digits of the part number "7.21659." indicate it is a 6.5 bar pump with 12mm inlet and female M10x1 outlet that's correct for the 924NA and 931 with CIS.
