Toyo has a nice r888 available in 225/40 for a 14" wheel and I was thinking of dropping down to the smaller size.
I can think of a couple advantages including gearing change, lighter unsprung weight, lower center of gravity, they're even wider tread than the 225/40/15. Assuming a 14" wheel would fit over the brake calipers of course.
Only problem is that I can't seem to find any wheels that would work.
Ideas? I think this would put me into "go kart" territory for handling. |

If you have a 5 lug brakes you can't use 14" rims. The brakes are too big for them. _________________ WBR, Shurick

I use 7J teledials. With Toyo R888 205/50/15. I think you can't go much wider, because if your car is very low and negative camber (like all track cars) there is not much more room for wider tyers. _________________ 937 trackday car

More like it'd put you in the Spec Miata category of handling... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Not sure if "Spec Miata" is better or worse than now... Car handles pretty well as-is, so I would think it would handle and accelerate better with the smaller wheels with wider rubber than the 225/50/15's on 15x6 cookies that are on it now. Less unsprung weight for sure, maybe by 5lbs/wheel depending on wheels. That's a lot.
Can anyone confirm there is nothing in 14x7 that will fit over the 5-bolt calipers? Minilite? Panasport? Old Fuchs? Miata wheels? I thought something would fit... |
