After 2-3 years this car sat without running(maybe more, who knows), fuel pump was pronounced dead (everytime power was applied, it made one clunk and wasn't spinning inside), i pulled it off, soaked it in carb cleaner and pumped some water through it, applied power again and it still made clunk noise and wouldn't pump. I drained my fuel tank and pulled fuel strainer off, first thing i could say was holy f@#k
and here is why:
what do you guys suggest i do? i am going to get some more carb cleaner and clean the strainer with it.
What should i do with my fuel tank? _________________ Dan |

Drop the tank and take it to a shop that specializes in fuel tanks, have it cleaned and inspected for rust-through, then have them put a liner in it if it's still good.
Good used ones are getting harder to find but not impossible. Plastic ones are available from 944's but they require modification to body understructure to fit, is what I understand. Don't know if anyone's actually tried it or not.
Good Luck! _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

I raised this point a while ago and Lizard's emphatic reply was: forget it! _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

any good tank shop should be able to repair it unless the whole thing is rotten through and though. Though you said there was fuel still in it before, so it cannot be that bad and will be repairable.
btw I would recommend that you just replace the high pressure pump. Reason is that if you dont now you will be shortly, and I would not consider those pumps to be repairable. _________________ 3 928s, |
