I just got a 1988 924s Lemans Edition several weeks ago and looking to get a good manual or two. (This is my first Porsche!) From what I've read I've actually got to look at the haynes manual for the 83-89 944. Is there anything else any would recommend without breaking the bank? Would this one manual suffice for a average do it yourselfer or should I look at Chiltons or elsewhere?

Thanks for the feedback.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

That's what I thought from what I've read about 924 having same drive and train as 944. My only question is will it cover the interior and be somewhat accurate as far as the electronics, dash removal, sunroof, and the like.

I've read here that there is gonna be 924s page starting with a section dedicated to the lemans edition. I think jcox@pcnet.ca is the one starting the page. I'm keeping my eyes open.

Thanks for the reply.......

You're getting a little confused here. It's the 924S (produced 87-8 that has the 944 drivetrain. The 924, which was 76-82 (through 86 in Europe), had a 2-liter drivetrain of Audi origin.

The 924S has the same interior as the early (83-85) 944, and so the Haynes should cover that info. Dash removal isn't covered worth a damn in Haynes, you need the Tech Section here! The early 944 interior was just an evolution of the late 924 (81-82) interior, and superficially looks the same.

I will more than gladly add a 924S Section or sections to the Tech page, just as soon as we have content - still waiting for that.

Do get the Haynes. Do not get the Chilton's. It is totally worthless.

I have a pretty good book on Bosch fuel injection systems. I can find out the author and publisher if you're interested. Understanding Motronic FI gave me a lot of insight on my car (87 924S).

Also the Haynes manual on automotive electronics is good if you don't have much experience with that kind of stuff.
