| I was told I could spray oven cleaner on the wheels to strip them. Anyone ever try this? |

To clean all the nooks and crannys of the spiderweb style wheels, I'd recommend you take them somewhere and have them bead or sand blasted. As the saying goes, "Been there, done that". A chemical stipping is going to be very uneven because of all the recesses and such.

An option is to have them powder coated.
Most of these companies ask you not to try to clean them before you bring them in. |

| I think that's the case if you have them chromed. Our local PCA club had a tech session at a local powder coater and he said that most late model Porsche wheels are powder coated, not painted. |

I painted my spider web wheels black - that way I didn't have to clean them that often. _________________ Remember a Porsche is not just for Christmas,

Keep in mind, these wheels are aluminum. Anything hot enough to remove temper will meld aluminum. Powdercoating ain't going to do it.
I have had mine powdercoated gold for over a year, looks great.
The only thing I use to clean my wheels is 409. Most wheel cleaners can damage the finish. Not to mention oven cleaner. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |

If they are aluminum, you could try * ALUMABRITE * It's made by * AURORA * it's an acid made to strip down aluminum.
I bought a couple bottles after trying to clean my old Crosley special.
Nothing worked worth a damn, (it's aluminum bodied).
I tried aircraft cleaner, everything... alot of work, alot of burnt skin, and still didn't look that hot, even after all the scrubbing.
I was talking with a friend of mine who details cars for a living, he told me about this stuff. He told me to bring a piece of the car in and we'd see how it worked on it.
I brought in the hood, the most weathered, nasty looking piece of the car, he sprayed this stuff on, pre deluted with water, let it set for about 5 seconds before hosing it off.
OMG.... the hood was now the cleanest part of the car. I can just imagine how the rest of the car will look scrubbed down with this stuff.
In a couple months I'll find out. _________________ 81' 931 |

The spider web wheels on mine were blasted, powder coated and clear laquered about fifteen years ago. They still look great and they've only ever needed cleaning with the same shampoo that does the rest of the car. A local shop did it for about 30 UKP a wheel. _________________ 1980 931 (with the odd electrical quirk...) |

Clean them and spray them with Wurth silver. That is it. Only use the Easy off to remove clearcoat off rims. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"
