I've been reading up on the nut and stud update stuff in the 931 Tech section. Has anyone gone to stainless steel studs and copper nuts? If so, what has been the result? _________________ Dave951M

I've been using copper nuts on my turbo components, and have not had any problems. Easy on, easy off. I've got my motor pulled to repair/replace the head and will be using copper nuts on all exhaust components when I reassemble. Don't know what to tell you about SS studs. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

I've used stainless steel bolts on the turbo to manifold since about 1987 and found they don't freeze up like steel ones do and the genuine ones I found will eventually work loose and at about NZ$60 a pop versus $2.00 for the stainless I reverted to stainless - even if they do drop out after a few years they're still cheaper.
I've changed to stainless steel studs and nuts on the manifold to head joint afew years ago - not sure on the life of these yet. The studs were easy to make as New Zealand is metric I could get 8mm threaded stainless rod and cut it to make the studs myself. It was time consuming but so far they've worked ok. _________________ Remember a Porsche is not just for Christmas,
