Ok, right now i have a stock exhaust... It has never been changed and so is not in 'perfect' condition. Anyone know of any good options, or do i have to go and get it hand made?

Is there any power to be gained by such an exhaust change?

You might want to check PeformanceProducts.com. They sell a cat. back by Bursch. Someone mentioned that they had it on this forum before, but i dont remember who it was. They also sell replacement systems by Dansk and Ansa which are more like the OEM style system. If you are willing to spend a little, i would recommend a Borla setup. I hear very good things about them, and would probably upgrade to them when i get the money.

I also have a question about exhaust systems to add...PP also sells a B&B peformance exhaust system. Its a bit pricey though at about $1000. Does this system really make that big a difference? I have no intention to purcahse one..just curious.

It just depends on what you want to do really Get a header exhaust and buy the replacement exhaust from somewhere like performance automotion or have it hand made buy a reputable shop. The shop I go to[eauropean car clinic] besides doing everything they bend there own exhaust. If your in a state where you can get away with it. Get rid of the catalytic converter and run a straight exhaust with performance muffler.
Install a header also. Youll get a performance gain of a few horsepower and should be able to feel the performance difference I think.

I had my exhaust done from the cat back, w/ twin muffler ansa (majorly free flow, barely any restriction). I had that setup for about one week, before the vibration was killing me. After checking to make sure the exhaust piping itself wasnt shaking, I looked and shook the piping all over, and there was no sign of the pipes touching the car, causing vibration. So i decided to put a resinator in, and boom, that solved the problem. I did notice there was a power increase with free flow exhaust, but its not worth the vibration caused by the massive sound coming from the mufflers. Disreguard what a muffler shop will tell you, theyll tell you that you must have a muffler, and a tip. You can put any muffler on w/ or w/out a tip. It wont drag on the ground or anything.

Night Pics, sorry, havent had time for daytime shots

speedsta2003...its the 'duck guy'...haha. How does your car sound at idle and while accelerating? I am seriously looking into a new exhaust because my current OEM setup is leaking fumes into the car (it smells horrible and i get a bad headache if i dont have the windows open. needless to say i drive with the windows open in the rain now). I am looking into a Borla setup as i heard flowmasters do not sound very good with the 924S. Is yours very loud? I dont want loud, i do however like the way the stock exhaust setup made the car sound. The only time i would ever want a super loud car is if i had a bigblock V8 and straight pipes. Anyway does anyone have a Borla setup on their 924? how does it sound?

hey duck, I had the muffler shop hold each one on to show me how they sounded, and borla I thought was the best, then ansa. I chose the ansa because I like the dual muffler style. But it was extremely loud with just the ansa muffler, and I can bet that any free flow muffler on the 924S will be loud, unless it's somewhat restrictive (considering the 924S restrictive muffler is still a bit loud). I had to put two resignaters on before it got quiet enough where it wouldnt shake the car from being so loud. But when I put the two res.'s on, the performance went down a notch. The best sound and throttle response came when I bought a cone filter setup off of ebay. It only costed fifteen bucks plus shipping, and since I had a recharger kit for my K&N filter, and this was rechargable, I thought I couldnt lose. It sounds damn sweet with the cone filter intake, but I did have to make my own bracket so the filter wouldnt rub against the alternator, right below the air box. I suggest the cone filter because of the throttle response and sound, and cheap price, it was cheaper than the K&N. It also freed up space under the hood so I could actually see some parts in the engine bay. On ebay type in 944 and look for the 13-15 dollar cone filter and adapter.

Are you sure fumes are not leaking in the rear hatch or the tail lights?

Can someone tell me if the dimensions of these mufflers will fit the 924S? Im defenetley going with Borla as ive read in a few places that they sound nice on the 924. I think what i may do is just fix the exhaust pipe clamp that broke by welding it (ive been meaning to learn how to weld anyway) and changing the muffler (just for the hell of it really). I figure knowing me, i will mess up the pipe install and throw off the backpressure or something. I dont know how...but ill manage to do it.

I was looking at the XR-1 and Turbo mufflers, i think the XR-1 will be too loud for me though, has anyone heard this on a 924S?

http://www.borla.com/uk.turbo/?cartID=2003061421421624.184.22.126

I know the inlet/outlet is 2.5 inches but which shell length and width would most closley match the stock 924S muffler to provide the best fit?

http://www.borla.com/xr1.sportsman.oval.mufflers/

Same question with the XR-1. Just to keep in consideration.

I've listened to the borla turbo, and it sounds pretty good on the 924S. It might be because of the shape, it's not totally a straight through muffler, The pipeway through the muffler is bent; it gives a good deep sound. At the shop in my town they were offering 100bucks and thats with installation included. I bet if you go to a muffler shop, you can talk them down lower than what those prices are, especially if youre going to do it yourself.
