My assumption for years has been that many of the early 77 model year cars in the US, meaning those that were actually manufactured in 76, MUST have been the 95 hp wheezers because they are here in the US. I had a "77" 924 a while back with a 76 manufacture date that seemed peppier than the 95 hp I assumed it only had...it's now gone to the great beyond.

However, given that my recently-purchased 924 is #821 and was manufactured in 5/76, and the FAQ says that the first 5k or so 924s were not destined for the US, I wonder if my current car is a grey-market Euro example which would indeed have the 125 hp engine. Or, was there a special numbering system for US-bound cars, wherein the chassis number 0001 was the first US-bound car and so on, and the Euro cars were on a separate system to account for the 5k cars in the FAQ?

In short, I wonder if my car, #821, actually has the Euro engine. It does have the charcoal canister sitting next to the wiper motor instead of down in the fender, which I had attributed to its early manuacture date. Now, I wonder if it was part of a grey-market federalization technique allowable for a non-catalyst car. Any thoughts out there - quick ways to visually identify a 95 hp weakling? John Brown, you still alive? If so, BTW, sorry I didn't make it to VIR for the Driver's Ed - the 951 continues to be partially diassembled.

Regards,
Al
