I'm reading the posts that I can find on the issue and haven't found enlightenment yet. What increase in noise do you get when upgrading from a rubber disc clutch to a spring centered clutch; and is it annoying enuff to warrant staying with the old style?

when you changed the disc was the flywheel resurfaced and was the preassure plate relaced, because it shouldn't really be louder, I personally wouldn't go with the rubber one but that is just me

The rubber center clutches were used by Porsche to help reduce noise and vibration from the driveline. They have become much more reliable as time has gone on, and as experience with the materials and technology have been been gained.

Still, most drivers that have experienced both types of clutch discs will agree that the spring center clutch disc will take more abuse than the rubber centered clutch disc, and the spring centered clutch disc does transmitt rattling noise and vibration from the driveline that the rubber centered clutch disc does not.

If you are going to abuse the clutch (any dragging or track work) you should go with a new (not rebuilt) spring center clutch. If you are easy on your clutches, or do not want any additional noise and vibration (stop your whining this is a sports/touring car), then go with the rubber centered disc. Personally, I am staying with the rubber centered disc.

I enjoy the seat of the pants feel so I guess when I do the clutch I'll go for the sping center disc for reliability. I know its a sports car and I wasn't whining...I saw somewhere on here that someone did a clutch job and it got noisy with the spring vs. rubber. I just trying to educate myself.

Yeah. I have the newfangled spring centered disc. I'd reccomend it for overall feel, but the noise is certainly there. It's not TOO bad, and it's easilly covered by the radio, or talking. but I prefer the spring to the rubber centred clutch any day.
