I’ve been eyeing these cars for awhile (924/944/928) and I want one. But I recently learned how important parts availability is and I’ve seen a few sites that allegedly dedicate parts to these cars, although I’ve seen more of those sites for the 928 than the 924, but I wanted to ask from the source; how easy or hard is it for you guys to find parts for these?[/b] _________________ If you aint first your last |

Well which 924 you want to buy? Because there are a few versions out there and finding parts for a common 924 is not really a problem, but finding some parts for the 924 turbo can be…and finding parts for a 924 GT, or GTS is a bigger problem.
Also, which parts do you mean? New engine block or cylinder head? Difficult and expensive, pistons? So and so..brake pads and disks? Easy.
Stuff that usually wears and breaks is generally easy enough to get if you’re not a total dufus.
Depends what you want to buy and what you want from that car.
If you just want a 924 and are happy with a decently running car your life will be much easier than if you’re a collector and want to “nut and bolt” restore a GTS. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

As Morghan says, most parts to keep a 924 running are available. Less so for the turbo version (931) but still to be had. There is quite a bit more availability of 944 parts since it is a newer car and people that don't like to work on them can still get them repaired at a shop. The 928 is an order of magnitude more expensive to maintain IF you can find the parts. Rarity has its cachet but count on a lot of down time when something happens to it. _________________ 1979 924 NA race car H-Prod SCCA

I haven't had trouble finding parts, but sometimes you have to be patient. I've had to wait for some parts to come from Germany when ordering through my local Porsche dealer. In other cases I've bought parts on Ebay and in other cases various 3rd party parts suppliers (Pelican Parts, Paragon Products, Auto Altanta and others). While some parts are NLA and only available used, many parts are still available new from Porsche. So far I've been able to do all of the work on my car myself (and much of the heavy lifting was done by the previous owner). California is a good state to find Porsches and parts. Lots of rusty cars on the east coast. _________________ 1981 Porsche 931 w/S1 engine & euro g31 transaxle. Water-cooled intercooler |

The mechanics are pretty reasonable to find, only real challenge is the gearbox parts for the cars with the dogleg box. Buy a car with a good interior, otherwise it can end up very expensive to sort everything out to a good standard. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

If you aren't patient maybe there are other cars to look at first, while most stuff you can find pretty easily other things not so much. For instance the dog leg 5 speeds are not absolutely a lost mission for finding gears if you break the synchros but about as close as you can get , but ebay, paragon, rose passion, pelican parts, and parts geek is pretty awesome and can have almost any part to you in 3-4 days. _________________ 1980 931 "Salt" Bucket wannabe racer (Dreaming)
