|
|
I have just ordered new Control Arms for the 931 and they arrived yesterday fully assembled with new bushes and balljoint already in place. They look great and for the price of €44 it is a right bargain compared to buying the bushes and balljoints and rebuilding the control arm yourself.
What I am unsure about the the castor bushing. According to PET I should have 477.407.181 A
On my new control arms I have a bushing that looks like this:
However on many Porsche webshops I see a part with metal inside it like this one
Who can tell me which is the correct version? |

these ar fine, I had them from Powerflex an they also did not have the metal insert, but never had any problems with it.
The ones with the metal insert can be a pain to get off when they are old/ rusted _________________ 937 trackday car

That^^^ is part number 171.407.181.A, as specified for 1976-78 models, which has been deprecated in favor of:

It's probably OK to use the earlier one if it's new / never been used, but given the low cost of these, I would use the updated part. Of course, now is also a good time to consider PowerFlex... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Thanks guys,
I just ordered the uprated part. I was considering PowerFlex, but I am not a fan op polyurethane bushes. They are ok on sway bars but they are too noisy for my liking.
I'll be sure to update you guys on the progress with my suspension ugrade |

The new castor bushes arrived today. They are quite a bit more chunky than the older style bushes.
While both have metal inserts they clearly have a different design parameters. Since I am now going to have metal on metal what is the best advice for lubrication?
My first choice is ceramic grease, but would love to hear your advice. |

That is a press fit. The metal sleeve isn't designed to turn on the arm, suspension movement is from deflection of the bushing. Ergo, on installing, it must be clocked to correspond to the position of the control arm relative to the body while loaded.
In other words, when the car is sitting on the ground, the bushing shouldn't have any twist.
Same situation with the front bushing... the mounting bolt isn't tightened until the suspension is loaded. _________________ Toofah King Bad
