It was a CS-144 GM-style alternator:

So go get one. Just watch up the pulley style and build the mounts. There's no drop in as far as I'm aware.

Sure there is.

Works for both 931 and 924.

I think OP means he wants to know which smaller alternator would work with the 924.

The ones posted by you guys might be lighter but they are still around the same size/dimensions as the stock alternator.

I was responding to the "no drop in replacement" comment.

It's unlikely you'll find a replacement that is both lighter weight AND more powerful. Copper is heavy. Windings, yo!

Same size and weight of OEM with DOUBLE the output and direct bolt-in.

Here is a 150 amp alternator that is basically drop in. You just need to replace the pulley and make small 10mm bushings inside the mounting points to accept the stock bolts.

http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/wgl-13779n/overview/year/2001/make/mercedes-benz/model/e55-amg

HOWEVER in my car this particular alternator broke apart internally after only a couple of thousand of kms.

Have now installed this one;

Same model alternator just a different brand... and a lot cheaper. So far it has been working fine.

Don't need more output, but 100mm diameter and a couple of kilos in weight is more appealing for me. Drop in options too

None of those would be drop in, but the RAC002 could be made to work if you are willing to modify your existing tensioning arm, or make a new one.

I use the tiny Nippon-Denso 45A alternator that can be found in Daihatsu cars and forklifts. Enough output for a 924.

Only 5 lbs
