I'm looking for new front springs. Does anyone know if they came from a VW car, and if so, which one ?

If you have a Weltmeister vendor near you, new (although slightly stiffer) springs are available VERY CHEAP.

Are you sure? Are the weights the same between the front end of the 924 and the 944? IIRC the 944 springs are stiffer and you might end up highering the car.

Physically they fit and while the weight is different, a quick trim will raise the rate a bit and drop the nose if necessary.

Do the calcs and you'll be able to determine effective rates based on the wire thickness and number of coils before and after trimming.

Only the 951/S2/968 have different lower strut mounting, but otherwise you can swap those around as well.

VW springs will be too tall, if they fit in the spring perches.

I wouldn't mind having springs that are a little stiffer. Some of you might recall that I have a 6 cylinder engine in the car = a little heavier in the front. Right now I have lowering springs installed and with this heavier engine and a 951 bumper, the front is VERY low. When driving out of the garage, it looks like this.

Would be ok to have the front 1/2 inch higher.

I installed the lowering springs long time ago, when the original engine was in the car. For some time I kept the original springs, but eventually threw them out, thinking I could always find a new set, if it would ever be necessary.

Yeah, check out the list of 944 front spring rates and you can see that they got more and more stiff over the years, so some trips to the breakers should yield you a variety of springs to try out.

Personally, I'd just install adjustable spring perches and 2.5" springs and be done with it.

You might also want to change the torsion bars to balance the handling back out if you go too much stiffer.

+1

buy a set of threaded sleves and a set of nuts for them, also get the required springs and top mounts. Total cost about 150-200 eur i think.

How about this kit.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MK1-Coilover-Kit-Porsche-924-944-968-Turbo-Non-Turbo-/140781228752?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20c73712d0&vxp=mtr

Would anyone here recommend that ?

IIRC, that mookeah stuff is not well regarded.

Ground control is recommended.

I was looking at that kit for a while too, honestly i dont think there is anything wrong with it. Other than the springs that can be wrong spec for your car...i see no problem in using that kit if you sort out the spring specs to be right for you.
And coming to think about it, if its a mk1 kit, that will have about 550-600kg on the front axle and since you run a heavier motor that should be fine. You can adjust the height and be done with it for cheap.
