""so you want to keep the same overall diameter of the tire but increase the width? an example would be starting with a 195/65/15 and going to a 205/60/15. the width of the tire will be increased but the overall diameter of the tire will stay the same. this also means that the distance from the ground to the rim will stay the same. so your profile hasn't changed but your aspect ratio has.""

Yep. I think we came to that conclusion.

""if you want to lower the profile- go to a larger rim diameter. using a 205/55/16""

I think that's what they were trying to tell me.

""offset is a whole other ball game.""

I forfeit

""as far as what to use on your 15" inch rims, a 205/60/15 all around will work perfect for you.""

Yep. That seems to be the general concensus.

**ps- do you really think you need an extra 5/16" in the rear? there should be a stock 21mm (about an inch) spacer on the back of your S already.

I did not know that and with the wider tire the spacer is probably unnecessary.

Thanks!

""You can find out all you want to know about tire sizes here.""

Yep. Read all that and understood very little of it. However, this thread has been very helpful.

duh, i had a memory melt down for a minute. of course your S doesn't have stock spacers on it. i was envisioning early 944's and 5-lug early 924's... sorry to make this any moer confusing!

i'm glad this helps. i think you had your basic question answered from the beginning.

if someone who is knowlegeable in this area would like to distill all this info into a single document then I'm sure Vaughan would add it to the FAQ.
