|
|
So I am still waiting on the purchase of the 78 924. However I am looking at getting prepared for the arrival. What I would like to know is:
1. What is involved in removing the front fenders of a 924, will it require the removal of the bumper?
2. The rear trunk will not close and latch on the drivers side, is that the spring inside by the lights or the plug on the trunk itself?
Thanks guys. When I get the car I will start posting some pics of it on the trailer and at its new home.

For the front fenders, you'll have to get all the bolts that run along the top under the hood,
3 bolts really deep inside along the door edge. To find these, you'll have to look for bumps in the undercoating and scrape it away off the bolt head. (unless that fender's been previously removed.) Royal PITA by the way. And if it's on the driver's side you might have to unbolt the charcoal canister to get behind it.
couple more bolts along the bottom edge behind the wheel
2 or 3 bolts at the front where the fender connects to the lower air dam
Finally one UNGODLY bolt just below the headlight, connecting to the nose panel. Good luck finding a way to get to that without cutting anything.
As for the trunk latch, that's probably the mechanism, not the trunk _________________ 1979 924 NA

Oh and no, you won't have to remove the bumper. that's just 2 easy bolts though anyway _________________ 1979 924 NA

the "ungodly bolt" behind the lights, you will have to remove your light assemblys to get at them.then they are a piece of cake with flex socket.also if fenders have never been removed before, and there is a ton of undercoat sprayed everywhere under fenders, you will have to cut the undercoating.i just took a thin scraper and from the top underhood, split along the fender seam.you can see the end of scraper from under in the fender well.its tricky stuff but can be done no issues once you know how _________________ Doco "where am i going and why am i in this handbasket"author unknown

The bolt by the head light can be removed by raising the head lights and remove the rubber seal with a 1/4 drive and a 6 inch extension. _________________ 77 ' 924 |

Most times I use and old fixed handle knife with stiff blade. You need to go under the horizontal seam where the fender bolts to chassis inner fenderwell under the hood. Once all the bolts are removed pound the knife through about 1Ft back from headlight area and slowly work it toward the back all the way along the flange under the hood on that seam pushing knife all the way through. Then go back and cut FW to nose in that seam. Going all the way through will save you trying to cut undercoating from the underside. Slice through undercoating vertically at the very tip of fender from above and below. Once that seam is cut free. start pulling outwardward (carefully you can bend the fender) and up with a wiggling motion. Keep that up while it gets looser (you are working loose the vertical hinge post undercoating ). It will start to get looser the more you pull and move it until it finally pulls free.

I honestly forgot all about this thread. Thank you all for keeping it alive. I may need it in the future. LOL.
If I have to remove the front fenders of the current car, I will definitely be removing the wheels to get into the wheel wells for a closer and further inspection. Plus the original fenders may not go back on. I really like the look of the D-prod cars and that could be a future update to my toofah.
