|

I've only just bought my first 924 after owning and racing minis all my life. One thing that I was pleseantly surprised in with the 924 is it amazing handling abilities, very much like a mini.
I'd be happy in taking the 924 hillclimbing as is as the lack of power will surely be made up for by the handling and the very well placed gear ratios.
Just wondering how much different it will really make it with spending some money on the suspension? Will it be worth it? as I say it handling amazing well at the moment. Will the return on investment be a significant amount? What will be required.....new hardened bush set allround, shockers, sway bars etc?
Many thanks and cheers

The car handles well in standard version but is very softly sprung, and many bits are worn. Going for stiffer springs, dampers and bushes should be step 1, and that will make a SIGNIFICANT difference on how the car behaves. Even if you do it quite moderately and doubles the spring ratio. Stiffer dampers makes a lot of difference to the feel (much more composed, much easier to control at higher speed), even on a standard sprung car, but not so much on corner speeds. But if you go for stickier tyres then much harder springs will transform the car behaviour and speed.. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Step One:
Koni Sport shocks, largest factory sway bars you can get your hands on.
Step Two:
Drive. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Yea, I was racing my 924 against a 911 on the highway today. And not for nothing but I think I tuned my engine pretty good cause I had him on the straightaways but he got me on the corners.
I'm going to make my own post soon, but needless to say, It's on like donkey kong with racing 911's |

@tscharke, in addition to suspension upgrades discussed above, you may need to consider different gearing ratios depending on the courses you intend to contest. You might want to look up a member here with the screen name daniel. He can fill you in on his trials and tribulations with gearing ratios for hillclimbs in down under venues. Also do searches on posts by simsport, who was contesting hillcliimbs in the UK. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
