How much torque can the 924 drive shaft and transmission handle?

Where should I start looking for a transmission for +800nm? What I've read the porsche g50 would do the job, but they are a "bit valuable"...

Is any audi transmission up to the task? Preferably 6-speed. I understand that 944/951 transmission is nowhere near 800nm?

I know that there isn't any bolt on solution. I would like to keep the body/frame of the car original, except for the mountings so the transmission shoud fit to it's original place.

Same goes for the drive shaft. Is there a stronger one than the original? I'm more worried of the transmission, because the drive shaft is far more easier to make from sratch if necessary.

Any thoughts?

What will make 800Nm?
How will you drive the car? road? track? drag?

Exactly the answer I was expecting

Don't concentrate on the engine or intend of use. I'll let you know if and when the driveline is sorted.

Well i'm asking this because of the following:

The 968 turbo S makes about 500Nn and can keep that all day on a track and for many years. Thats the 968 6 speed (probably some improvements for the turbo) So if you would just apply 800Nm on that exact gearbox once in a while for street driving, that might be ok.

On the other hand, you can go alot cheaper, you might know..or not..but the modern Audi cars share "the same" gearbox with the 924/944.
That means that if you take a VW passat, or Audi A6 gearbox, you can easly fit it to the 924/44.
These modernized gearboxes take quite some punishment from the boosted diesel engines. I mean...i know guys pushing 300HP coming from a diesel engine trough their stock boxes....at 300HP the torque levels would be quite high...and since these boxes seem to hold up..that might be your answer: Audi A6 TDI 150hp 6speed gearbox.

968 01E 6spd gearbox is basically the same as Audi 01E box found in A6, A8 FWD models. A8 unist have external oil cooler and stronger 1-2 gears also.
These hold up 800Nm quite good, but don't expect them to last long in dragracing.
01E boxes require 968 driveshafts as one is shorter than the other due to asymmetrical placement of the diff.

951, 944S (same as 951 basically) and S2 gearbox (shorter 5th) hold up 800 Nm also if you don't launch hard. Friend has green 968 turbo, with 630 whp/740wNM and S2 gearbox works just fine.

If you want to dragrace without any problems, go straight to Powerglide or Lenco.
