I'm interested in what you guys would consider a good price/performance street coilover solution for our beloved 924.
ofcourse i'm refering to the wide body...aluminium arms suspension.

KW offers some solutions around 2000 euros....~$2700

i'm driving my mk3 golf since about a year with the KW type 3 coilovers and they are a bit unconfortable...they make the car rattle, especially when using 205/40/16 tires.
now i dont use the 924 as a daily...and i use it only on good roads...but i'd hate the 924 if it would rattle.
anybody using coilovers that they would recommend?

I think the ground control ones are cheaper. The Hypercoil ones from Paragon are even cheaper but they are only for the front.

Brand doesn't matter as much as matching the spring rate to the shock rates. Don't use solid upper mounts and the ride will be less harsh/noisy.

As for what spring rate/shock settings to use? I don't really know. Everyone has different thresholds for noise/bumpy rides. There is information around the web that will provide you some equations to use to determine some ballpark ranges to shoot for. However, this assumes you know the specifications of the shocks settings, etc.

It depends on how you plan to use your car, track racing, street driving? Is the car stock today in the suspension ?

fiat22turbo, i'm also looking from the price perspective...2000 euros for a coilover is alot here....a very good salary is maybe 800 euros netto.

i'm going to use the car 95% on the road, but i'm looking for a more one piece feeling. I love the mk3 with the KWs...well except for the rattling.
Also, i'd like to adjust the ground cleareance within a fine margin...without going trough the t-bar reindexing nightmare again.
At the moment i have the factory setup...actually i have a weird setup.

REAR: ROW 924 torsion bars thats 22mm IIRC, mated with 951S arms and stock ROW sway bar....14mm IIRC....all this lowered (reindexed)
this is too soft...this feels like a boat compared to my mk3 on kw.

FRONT: 931 suspension but with harder springs (3 blue spots) with a 944 sway bar...23mm IIRC
this is also a soft...

Yup thats a very soft setup, problem is thoug that the cheapest kits dont have the perfect setup, often it gets uncomfortably bouncy. My friend had a 944s2 race car with Leda suspension calculatet and simulated by a experienced race engineer, that car fast insanely fast and at the same time pretty good on the street, just an example.

But just for having a nicer feeling of the car most kits are just too much money. Have you checked GAZ kits?

i found some koni shocks for the rears that sound like a good upgrade...but without stronger t-bars...i'm not sure it will work very well.

for the fronts i'm still looking for solutions, i have yet to find a price catalog for GAZ products :|

I would look into buying the larger T-bars and Bilstein shocks/struts. Koni's are nice if you need adjustment, but it seems like the Bilstein's are pretty close out of the box.

as a cheap solution, probably the cheapest, one could use vw beetle (old one) coilovers for the rears.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Beetle-coil-over-shocks-rear-/220907130890?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D1%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D4859253826301475464

~100 euro is cheap.
AFAIK the extended length is smaller than the original 924 shocks...so for a not lowered t-bar car, one would need to lift the arm uppon instalation of these coilovers.
Also..for the aluminium arms one would need to re-bush the lower side of the coilovers since the bolt is larger in diameter for the alu. arms and these are designed for the vw beetle steel arms.

not sure about the spring rates for those coils tho...however i dont think they are very hard.

also...on the cheap side...for the fronts there is this solution.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MK1-Coilover-Kit-Porsche-924-944-968-Turbo-Non-Turbo-/160632733459?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item256674ff13

with decent shocks this could be quite ok for a street driven car.

The Paragon front kit is $265 (choose your own spring rate with name brand springs), I would trust that before I would trust the "Mookeh" brand.

Also, cip-1 has VW t-bars for quite cheap.

I would either purchase a full set of ground control coilovers OR the paragon front kit.

If I were in europe I would buy this kit instead:
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3450

They also have a big assortment of springs, much cheaper than paragon kit.

Track proven on some 924s, including mine

They also sell GAZ dampers, I have that combination on my car (60N/mm ~350 lb/inch), together with 28mm bars from cip-1 mentioned above. But coil over at the rear would have been nice, although it wasnt so hard to change bars and get correct ride height. There is quite a lot of adjusment availbable on the eccenter screw.

...the eccentric scew is a nasty thing i dont like the way it changes the geometry

As my car goes fairly slow for 90% of the time on the street...and it rarely puts much load on the suspension....until now my favorites are:

front: the kit from rallydesing + springs and bilstein shocks
rear: rebushed beetle coilovers (still waiting on an answer on the spring rates on those things)

Not interested to go as cheap as possible but it appears that this solution is also easy to install and set..at least compared to installing different t-bars.

As a side note, i have my MK3 TDI with very expensive KW suspension..thats around 1800euro...and a friend of mine bought TATechnincs coilovers for 300euro...the difference is not that great...the KWs are somewhat more confortable...and it seems a tad more stable in the corners...but the differences are minimal and i'm running 205/40/16 tires and he is on 195/50/15.

i have som GAZ shoks on my 2wd sapphire cosworth and they work very very well! i purchased them from rallydesign many years ago, everything was perfect at the time except the communication and the waiting.... more than one month to deliver the parts!!
