Update:
- No, there is no hole in the housing.

kaffine: The to-be-drilled hole, is it ment to be on the flat surface where the VW and Audi symbols are?

Note: The housing has this parts no: 113 905 851 A
Must be a standard housing, think I saw something like this in one of my old VW Rabbit (over here its known as VW Golf) from 1987 or maybe the -90??

kaffine: Ah, OK... That housing is kind of different than mine... And the markings on mine aren't in the same place either so I guess I'll be drilling "blindly"...

Idea: I take the housing down to the VW repair shop in town and ask them for advice. Maybe they can separate it for me on the spot!

To all: Thank you, this forum is really something! *thumbs up!*

Regards
Magnus

*Ancient post reanimation alert!*

I have a three bolt housing with an ignition barrel that matches all my doors, boot & petrol cap. I want to fit this to my car.

My car has the four bolt housing:

I cannot for the life of me work out how to swap the barrels, it looks like I have to drill them but I need the location.

Otherwise, what do I need to change to mount the three bolt stalks?

Any help would be much appreciated

Vaguely recalling a hole somewhere in the housing around the barrel (obviously not visible in your pics). (-Or maybe you have to drill the hole yourself? - see...very vague..)
Anyway, once you find or drill the hole in the correct spot, insert an icepick or nail to depress the flat springy thing that holds the barrel in, and pry or push the barrel out.
Been discussed before, so it along with the location of where to drill should be findable with a search.
Also look at both your barrels - possible that one version came pre-drilled. Then you could use it's holes' location as a guide for where to drill the other.

Nevermind the search. Kaffines last reply on the previous page describes where to drill.
[-And it applies to the '81-up 3-screw version. -So obviously find where the hole would be drilled on that one, then drill the corresponding location of the 4-screw housing. (Pretty sure the spring would be in the same spot in both versions.)

Decided to learn by doing:

Drilled the first using the template and then saw that the release mech is at least 1cm long so took a punt on the other

Now all my locks match
