Hello All,
well my Porsche has another gas leak.. Crazy..

So a little info on how we found it.

Just took the car out of my back cover-it garage, charged the battery checked it all out.
tried starting it and it was giving me a hard time, finally got it started.
Idling great and purring like a kitten.
All of a sudden I smell gas strong.
I quickly check under the hood where I just repaired the fuel lines last year and nothing was smelling up there.
I go to the back and smelled it strong, I look under the car and it was like dripping really fast like gushing out.
quickly I turned the car off but the gas continued to drip out pretty fast.
I went and grabbed a flashlight and my jack.
I jacked her up and looked and as best I can tell there is a small section of rubber fuel line about 8" long connecting a hard-line to what looks like my fuel filter.
I wiped it off and it just got soaked again.
It appears that the gas is coming right out of the crimped part as I pointed out in a different picture (from front) of what looks like the connector under the car in the rear.

I am pretty sure that the hard line was dry and also the connectors bolt was dry.
Gas was just coming right out of the crimp onto the hose and running down the rubber hose onto the filter and then dripping off the filter itself.

I think when the car was running it was like spraying out there.??

My thoughts of why it happened was that the cars pump was going and the car was not starting and I kept trying to give it some gas and the line just kinda burst?

Well I am wondering if that ever happened to anyone else?

Also I am wanting to get a replacement section of hose and don't know where to look?

and at the same time I figure I better change the fuel filter if I already have one side of the old one disconnected.
I am sure I can find a filter fairly cheap and it looks like a pretty straight forward job.

Oh yeah and in order to stop it from dripping I released the fuel pressure up under the hood and it stopped dripping. Finally.!

any help is greatly appreciated. thanks a bunch

(not same hose that is failing but just to show where I think it is leaking from, has this happened to these types of hoses to any of you?)

thanks again

Brian

I am not at the car to get a good picture now, but I found this picture that has the hose and filter I am talking about.
(at least I think so, I was able to reach the connector on the filter side easy but the one up higher is gonna be a Bi$%ch to take off I think.

anyone know where and or how I go about getting a part number or replacement for that hose section?
Or is it something common that I could take off the old one and take to some place and match it up for a new one?

I circled it in blue here.

Should be the same as an early 944 and you should replace them all at the same time as they are all the same age

Pelican and other vendors should have the hoses in their catalogs.

If you want to be sure, hit up Porsche's website and look it up in the PET catalog.

If you can't wait for shipping, etc. you could also take the existing hoses off and have a local hydraulic shop make new hoses with the old fittings (Look for Oil Filter Service and the like).

Good luck and BTW the hose kept leaking because fuel injection systems hold residual fuel pressure in the lines after the pump turns off.

nice thanks for the tip man. those PET diagrams are right what I needed. lol
I think I found the part I need and I found it located here as well.

I have to double check when I look at the car again and try and take that bad boy off of there.
hope that doesn't give too much trouble.

Do I need to do anything before removing that hose, is gas going to continue to flow all over me. haha

Depressurizing the fuel system will help reduce the amount of fuel dumped on you. I would recommend covering your skin with heavy rubber gloves as gas these days is nasty, nasty stuff.

Clarks Garage is also a great resource for step by step tutorials on a number of maintenance items.

You'll need a set of Metric Flare Nut wrenches to break the lines loose without destroying the fittings. You could just cut the rubber hose off and use regular box end wrenches, but you'll still need metric flare wrenches for tightening the fittings up properly without rounding the fittings over.

You'll need to put one wrench on the part you don't want to move and a wrench on the one that you do. Hold the wrench you want to stay still and use it to provide leverage for the wrench you want to move. Basically, move the wrench on the rubber side of the fitting towards the hardline side of the fitting. Failure to do so could result in damage to the hard lines, etc. and that will really ruin your day.

Not to generate more work for you, but you might want to think about dropping the tank and replace all of the rubber lines in the system while you have the chance. They are all the same age and subject to similar elements and will leak at some point.

I got the Hose OFF a few hours ago! YAY!
It was not as hard as I thought because I had access to the upper connector via the other side of the rear trans thing.

I took the hose with me to 2 hydraulic shops and asked if they could make me a hose or rebuild me one using the connectors.
they both said no and that people come in all the time asking that and they say no.
so I just don't know if they where being dinks or if they just cannot help me for real.
anyway I am just about to order the hose from Pelican and a fuel filter as well as mine is stock still.

I can't wait to get it all back together so I can work on some other issues it has. lol 1 at a time....
I can't afford to fix them all at once. lol

BTW I used a flare nut wrench set my dad had along with a box wrench and it worked great.

I will keep you posted after I replace the hose and test for leaks.
Sniff Sniff. lol
