I have a 1980 931 w/o power steering. It has a lot of play in the steering. I adjusted the spring tensioned, but that cause the steering to be too tight when the wheels were turned.
Where do I get new/ replacement rack and pinion?

Have a unit from a '79 na that had 80K when parted out. Make off and pay shipping form 94549.

Don't use a rack from a 924.

The 931 came with a rack with a faster steering ratio.
