OK, I have read a kazillion threads about wiper switch, relay, and grounding problems. Forgive my denseness, but things electrical take a long time to soak into my brain.

I just installed a new wiper switch, and the wipers are always on intermittant (in both intermittant, and OFF position). Prior to replacing the switch, it occassionally gave me random wipes.

I know I need to get under the dash with the multimeter, but I still have a quick question. . .is it POSSIBLE for a bad wiper relay to give this symptom? If so, how likely? It looks like the actual relay is operated by solid state circuitry of some kind.

So, looking at the diagram, I need to test the pin coming from the switch at "S1" - which goes br/bl at the wiring harness plug. If this pin gives ground in the off position, the switch is bad, right?

I think you will find S1 is ground or live depending on switch position.

its very possible the cams in the motor are gunked up too.

mine did that when i had a bad ground.

now i have a vw relay and i dont have intermittent. just two "off" settings, slow, and fast. it was free, so i cant complain.
