Yup, I'm sure there are a few ideas in here:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=carb+site%3A924board.org
I believe someone adapted a downdraft manifold off of an AMC or a Postal Jeep to one of these cars and others have posted about finding one or more cars modified with some sort of cobbled up adapter welded to the stock intake.
Seems a lot harder to do than replacing some fuel lines, vacuum lines and fixing a few electrical connections.
With all of that said, I think it wouldn't be too hard to adapt a single side draft Weber or a bike carb to the stock TB location compared to adapting a downdraft carb. Just need to build a prototype using a block of wood and then have someone mill it out of a chunk of aluminum or phenolic material.
The adapter will likely have to tilt the carb up a little to clear the valve cover, which could then fowl on the hood. Then you get to fight the ancillaries, throttle cable, fuel delivery (EFI pump plus carb does not usually equate well) plugging the injector holes in the head, sorting out any wiring issues, possibly clearancing the hood, etc.
good luck! _________________ Stefan

Know anyone who can TIG cast aluminum? If so, have them weld a generic Holley carb adapter bas plate to the top of the stock intake, plug off stock throttle body hole and cut a big hole in the hood, cover the carb with a fuelie scoop made from a mailbox, etc and take it to lemons.
Try to replicate Hammond's 924 from Top Gear complete with flames, skull shifter knob and his name emblazoned on the roof. Then have all the drivers wear loud shirts with long hair and cowboy boots.
Finally, download and install Firefox or Chrome and never use IE unless you absolutely have to! LOL _________________ Stefan
