I have owned all three of these at the same time.
85.5 944 suspension soft
88 924S great suspension and handling
79 931 although fast it could not outhandle the 924S
My nod goes to the 924S. The 931 is crude but fast and the 944 was a very nice car but a little on the soft ride stuff.
All of them were stock at the time. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

My 87 924S with Konis (also lowered and updated with larger sway bars front and back) could not out corner my stock 1980 931S with the M471 package. It also kept up with the 931 until about 70 then Spike roared and said goodbye.... _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Far be it from me to disbelieve someone who's been there and done that.
Still, I would've thought it'd be a pretty close run thing... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

my 924 turbo best drag time is 15.1 @ 95mph..the mods are a FMIC but i run fat 17" tires 225 fronts and 245 rears...so thats a dissadvantage too...i'm sure it would go under 15 with propper thinner and smaller more like stock diameter tires. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

Compare apples to apples.
Stock 924S to the stock 931. The 0-60 times should not be the only measure. If you never owned a 924S let alone a 931 then you have no vote on this. Yes, it is a matter of opinion. If you have read my much earlier posts you will notice I like the 924 and the 931 over my 87 911.
Will my 911 run rings around both cars? Of course 0-60 Less than 6 seconds. All things being stock mind you.
My favorite is my 924 track car that I have owned since late 77. It is modified but finicky at times. Taps out at about 125. The 931 slightly more at 135 but the 911 156. Which is better? Only you can tell us that.
Just compare apples to apples.
0-60 for the NA 924 12 seconds or slightly less. If I am not mistaken the NA 931 is 8.5. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

My genuine owners manual says it is 7,7 seconds. And that is the 0-62mph time (0-100km/h).
Autocar issue from 1979 says it is 6,9 seconds from 0-60mph according to their own acceleration tests. _________________ Mikko

Sorry in the US it is only 8.5 to 60 or near there.
My Euro 931 is in the 7.0-7.7 to 60. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

You really don't need to pontificate on anecdotal porformance numbers they are here and posted several times.
http://www.weissach.net/924-944-968_RoadTestSummary.html
Stock early US Spec 931 vs Stock 924S is a dead heat.
The US S2 is likely a bit faster.
ROW 931 has the edge and likely a good bit of an edge. Sry... same weight more horsepower is gonna equal faster. You could beat a 924S up all day long and still not get it to 60 in under 7 seconds.
And since this has the subjective question of which is better... I think being able to add an intercooler to the 931 and boost up power over 200hp is pretty clearly a big check in the 931s favor. _________________ 1981 931 GT (CGT Intercooled)

Spike was running a stock M471 suspension when it out cornered the S, but was not running stock pistons or stock boost when the aforementioned run was done. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Yes I know that link, I think I posted it to this forum couple of years ago. This thread is about which 924 is faster and/or better. So all of those fractions of seconds count. I'm not a rational guy when it comes to 924s, I see these things as a child. I want to know which one is the fastest.
I can't go to work and start to talk about 924 performance numbers. They would not understand. I hope I can argue about those numbers in this forum. If it is not allowed here, then I have to argue with myself. And if I do it out loud they will put me away and give me some strange medication. So I'm going to continue writing my silly posts until I'm banned. _________________ Mikko

I´m not that convinced that the 931 should be so harsh or not refined. I drove a low milage 931 which was top condition, like new, no cracked dash nothing. It´s very civilized for being a car from the 70s with that performance, even with the g31. I would really love to have another one in that condition. Its so cool to drive one that shows how the car was when it was "new" _________________ 1980 924 Turbo
