hahaha that is the funniest shiii^& ever!
wow i didnt realize the viper wasnt that bad in corners
biggest shock though was when the viper smoked the 911 down that straight...only to have the porsche come out in front!
was that the end of the race or did they just decide to stop filming when the viper finally got ahead? im sure the 911 would have cut inside him on that last corner a few seconds after filming stopped
Both great cars! _________________ 1979 NA

How are those two cars in the same class?
The displacement is hugely different.
Never seen the viper in race form, but it looks pretty sweet.
Kind of reminds me of the Marcos LM 600.. but not as good.
Watched the video and it seems the cars/drivers are pretty evenly matched. Make me nervous just watching them drive that fast 5 feet apart from each other.
added for fun.
Road car, only one maybe.. although they will still make you one if you want

Great Video !!! Was the right thing to see early in the morning.
Amazing that the viper was able to follow in all of the corners !!
She is so dammed heavy, front motor layout....suspension work was done exellent!! For me it was sure that the viper will get away on the long stretch ( btw. it is the Döttinger-Höhe, right before the end of the old nuerburg ring race track, where it melts into the F1 Corse.)
Yesterday i saw a video with a Nissan GTR and a 911 Turbo doing the same thing, without traffic.....
The dammed bosai-racer puts a new record on the board....07 Min.23 sec!!!
And that in the Porsche homeland!!! I guess some guys in Zuffenhausen and Weissach had a sleepless night......

I know these guys from the video, they are competeing in the VLN series. Viper ran out of gears on the main straight, and that is the reason it had a good acceleration from the corner exits. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

how are they evenly matched?
on the main straigth just after the 911 passes..check out how the viper's hood wobles around..probably because of the speed...but more probably because its an american car _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

Yes, i noticed that "movement" from the hood also, but thats not causing the loss of speed against the Porsche.
I guess raceboy is right, the gears have to be too short for the viper.
That explains why it was so #### fast all the way but runs out of power on that 3 km long straight section.

I also chuckled at the Viper rattling through the Karussell. . .I bet the GT3 didn't make that racket. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Excellent footage and even better driving, made my day. Nothing beats the roar of a GT car in the tight confines of the 'Ring with all of its dips and ruts scattered along the surface...The 911 had the upper hand in the most technical of the downhill sections but otherwise the two were quite closely matched, bumper to bumper almost all the way through with the Viper taking the slightly wider racing line...brilliant.
The 'Ring's a place to behold, thought I'd post a link to some photos from when I visited Green Hell a couple years back:

It is an incredible video - even keeping the car on the track at those speeds isn't easy at the 'ring -and racing that close while passing all those other cars!
I got 12 laps in last weekend before breaking a rear lower shock mount
My first trip there in the 951 - I'll be back again next year I hope
We also did a track walk on the Friday night - the circuit is even more intimidating on foot!
