I did a search and found that some members have used skateboard truck bushings in place of the 924 alternator bushings. Does anyone have any pictures of the bushings or a description of how that was set up?

Here is a picture of the stock alternator bushing:

and from what I've seen, skateboard truck bushings are shaped like these:

I assume the skateboard bushings are much harder rubber. Is the whole stock bushing setup (rubber piece pictured above and the metal sleeve) replaced by the skateboard bushing or do you still use the stock sleeve?

Porsche superceeded the stock bushing to poly over 20 years ago. The only way to get rubber ones is aftermarket.

I've got some skateboard bushings on mine. Not the cone shape ones though - only the larger ones. You have to sand them down as they are a wider diameter than the holes in the mounting brackets. I put them onto a drill bit, turned the drill on and "sanded" them on a brick to get them near enough same diameter. Then fine tuned it with a proper sander. I replaced the bolt with the allen key head with a normal hex bolt too and used those big washers, 1 at each end of the bolt and 2 in the middle section where the alternator swings back and forth.

I found the poly bushings to be a bit soft so they would pull the alternator out of line. These skateboard rubbers are much harder and available in various degrees of hardness too. I went for one rating less than rock hard

I ran my alternator with some aluminum bushings I machined, before I swapped the alternator over to the other side anyways.

I used conical, a packet of 4 was $8, had to enlarge the hole a smidge to fit the bushing and used two in total, one for either side of the front mounting bracket.

Interesting. Thanks for the replies. I haven't had a chance to mess with it, but I'm not driving that car because the alternator fan is nicking a bolt because the mount bushings are worn. I have a broken skateboard in my garage. I'll take a look at the truck bushings to see if it looks like I can make bushings out of them. I don't want to modify the mounting bracket holes.
