|
|
I've been driving my 77 regularly lately, so the battery's been pretty healthy, but for some reason the other day it died following a 10 minute drive and a 20 minute rest while i did some jobs. The engine was cranking, but i was getting that "click click click click" that tells me the battery's shot. It jump started fine, but after i took it home it died again. I've checked that i didn't leave any accessories on, but i don't know what the issue is.
I've checked the battery, and the little indicator on the battery tells me that it's fine, so i'm expecting trouble somewhere else.
Can anyone shed some thoughts on what it might be? _________________ 1977 Martini Rossi |

If one of your checks shows that the 12+ volts has dropped, then you know one of your electrical accessorys are using way to many volts. If you don't see any voltage drops, then I would remove your alternator, and have it tested at a local auto parts store. If its fine, then I would replace your Voltage regulator (about $15-$30), and clean up your starter wiring. I would bet one of these tests would find your answer. _________________ =====>Alex<=====

First check shows that i'm getting about 9-10 volts, but i haven't driven the car for a week. I'll try roll starting it tonight and taking it for a bit of a drive to charge it, and i'll check my terminals tomorrow.
Thanks for your help guys _________________ 1977 Martini Rossi |

new batteries are normally pretty pricey, so i'd check what the previous guy said first. But to me ya it sounds like just a good ole' battery problem, OR your starter could be on the way out 'cause when I first got mine my battery (brand new) kept doing that and i couldn't figure it out.. It'd only barley start with 200 jump start goin' through it. replaced the starter and it now no longer does that. P.S. alternator could also be a problem if it's dieing on short trips and starting it up. I know when im having problems with it and i haven't driven it, it doesn't take a whole lotta cranks to drain the bat, so be careful of extremely short trips, and long sitting periods specially with the cold. =) _________________ Just wait 'till my turbo starts firin' the RPM LZR!
