It runs

edit: here's the video (7mb, 1min).
Try: Save as... at least over here clicking it won't work
hmm if I download it myself it's 1.57kb... I'll up it on youtube to be sure.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgkLsfnUMGQ

Sound isn't really as bad as it looks, but you can hear it run quite good
There's no exhaust under it yet... only downpipes.
/edit.

A friend of mine helped me with the last things which I couldn't do on my own due to my temporary handicap.

Radiator, distributor, some wiring stuff, spark plug testing... etc.

After all the checks, like spark, fuel pressure etc etc, we hooked up the injectors and thought we would see what happened.

Fire extinguisher was ready to use and I didn't expect anything to happen, because MS and my ignition aren't set right.

I just had MS make a crude table for afr and VE, spark went by the stock system...

Cranking cranking... a puff! more cranking little bit of throttle.... another puff!

More than I expected. At the last start the engine turned a bit the wrong way while I switched it off, so there was some smoke from the #2 air filter.

I planned to try to start it everyday, to see when it got better.

Smoked a sigaret to prevent flooding... and after that, I cranked, with a few percent of throttle... and it was alive!

It kept running with minor throttle, and when I gave it more throttle its response was wonderful! it climbed up to 3000 rpm in notime.

Since I've got no exhaust and was running without any coolant and more important, the engine is rebuilt, I didn't rev it too much.

Oil pressure was 8 bar, alternator gave output, everything went the right way.

I had my friend make a video with my phone, but the sound is nastyyyyy. Very metallic, which you can't hear irl but on the video it's crap.

Friend has a few secs on his phone...that's a better sound.

I'll up the video as soon as possible...

Now, as I see it.... this couldn't go any better!
I didn't expect it to response to my throttle without any tuning at all... and I wasn't sure if the throttlebodies and raised compression ratio would allow it to run anyway... but it still runs at 1000 rpm.. even have it idling (ok, throttle/idle screw is set 1% open).

Haven't got fast idle stuff or something...

wow... I'm so happy... it runs, it didn't blow, it didn't leak, my modifications work perfectly and MS has it running quite well on the first try.

What are the odds
Only down side: my AFR (LC1) isn't giving me anything... in megatune it keeps at 7.50 afr, and my gauge in my dash isn't giving me any reading too... but if 7.50 is correct, it's outside the gauge's scope.

I'll move this whole thing to my other thread, because now I don't know what to do....make a log?

First I have to see if I've got AFR at all, but I have to get the exhaust (from mid muffler on) on too.

The only thing that could make it less good is that I don't have any torque left with the TB's....but that's not a worry for now

Yeah... one of the first TB'd NA's

Great news. Let me be the first to congratulate you. It's always a scary moment when you first turn the key after a major teardown even if you haven't performed a lot of unauthorized mods.

Excellent!

Can't wait to hear it! I should bring some ear protection huh?

That mp4 link doesn't work, one way or the other. Youtube to the rescue?

Edit: I can bring some coolant tomorrow, let me know.

It sounds incredible... and it revs up very fast. Did you lighten the flywheel?

Great job, man. That motor sure looks different without all that CIS crap clinging all over it like crabs on a can of cat food.

Haven't lightened anything. I was really afraid (still am until I've had a drive) that I'd lose much torque and low end power due to the throttle bodies. So the flywheel and cam etc weren't changed. I didn't want to change too much in one time... rebuilding, raising compression, mounting TB's and running MS was actually too much in one go...

I'm really surprised the engine revs this smooth without tuning. I'd expect at least some sort of hickups or something.

I'm not starting it too much. Tomorrow when baldwin comes by I'll start it for the last time for the next couple of weeks. I want to get the 44 expansion tank and other stuff at home first.

In the meantime I'll get my center console back in and probably try to get the EDIS stuff in it so that the switch to EDIS will just be a matter of changing the plug leads.

Dude... don't start it just for my entertainment. I'll be happy just taking pictures of your setup to speed up my itb-conversion. If I can help you with your engine, let me know! I have the week off, you cripple!

I actually can't think of much to do on the car except for some small things... I was looking forward to this moment, but now it's here...and there's little exciting stuff to look forward to... yeah driving it, but there are still lots of things to do before that happens.

I'll start it anyway tomorrow...

At least we could fix the coolant issue...?

And there's the lambda-sensor... Ah plenty to do then. I'll bring sandwiches

After a rebuild, the procedure is to start and run it stationary somewhere in the 1800-2500 rpm range for about 20 minutes. (Look it up to verify first...the actual number might be 1800, or 2500 rpm, or something else.) -But the important thing is to not let it idle during that first 20 minute stationary run after a rebuild, and for the first few hundred miles of actual driving beyond that.

Good work!

glad it runs OK!

I'll second what the doggo says, don't let it idle (If it will at all) as the oil pressure will drop too low also idle is quite hard on engines as there is lots of stop starts and accel-decels. also the rings won't bed in.

Keep up updated!

glad it all runsa well ....now lets hope you recover as fast as the car operation did .......

well mmm running in the motor too many suggestions only 1 from ym side is keep it below 4000rpm for 500km after that if it gona break it is going to do that no matter what ....my race motors running in procedure is as follows: start motor wait for oil pressure once that is there well onto the track 2 laps of slow driving exel and slow donw 3rd lap hammer it to the max ....mmm havent broken any motors that way yet ! but i'm sure a lot of people say never do that well mmmm your decision hehe
