I have an 84 944 with an 87 924s motor and DME and today ran into some difficulty autocrossing. After 3 runs the car seemed to starve for fuel ever time I cornered (left, right, slalom). In a straight line I could accelerate with no power loss. The ride home I had no problems including a few drifting moments on a few back street corners. Does anyone have any thoughts? Going to try a new fuel filter this week and the car already has a new coil and wires.
Thanks for your thoughts. |

Could be fuel or electrical also...if something is shorting out the fuel pump (i.e. the relay?), that could be the problem.
Most of us keep a spare fuel pump relay in the glove box.

It sounds like a fuel pickup issue...when you corner, the fuel moves to one side of the tank, missing the pickup. I've run my car down to fumes at auto-x events and haven't had this happen though...very odd. _________________ Chris

Finally had a chance to work on the car this weekend and discovered that it had a fuel pump that doesn't really fit the car. The pump inlet and outlet were smaller than the stock pump that I had on the shelf so I wonder if it couldn't maintain proper pressure in the fuel rail while autocrossing. Almost as though I ran out of gas in the straights and the car didn't react until I was in the corners.
I replaced the pump, fuel filter, pulled the tank float and cleaned out the tank and found no debris in the tank at the inlet.
Hope this worked but won't know until October at NHIS.
Thanks for your thoughts.
