Hello to all the 924 board members.
I'm a Porsche enthusiast from South Africa
I had recently stumbled upon this site as I have a keen interest in 924s. At the moment, I own two Volkswagen Fastbacks, shopping around for a project 924 to buy sometime before the end of the year
Any South African guys from the board are more than welcome to PM/email me.
Expect to see me ask some stoopid newbie questions regarding engines very soon
cheers all,
Ilyaas |

Welcome to the board.
Step right up and for your benefit you might want to read the FAQ and use the search button a few times to get familiar with what to look for when buying a 924.
I'm Neil and I'll be your guide. If you can't find me I may be out back doin' a broad so don't come looking for me. |

So it's sorta' like: "If Scotia is a'rockin', don't come knockin'? _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Welcome aboard.
Are you a Porsche enthusiast or a 924 enthusiast? If you're both, you're on the right track... The 924 is practically a vee-dub with lots of Audi parts, so it might be right up your alley. But it should be said it's not a high-performance car, with no real racing heritage. Some will argue it's been raced with success but I'd argure it's nothing even approaching the mainstay Porsche models i.e. the 356 and 911. The exception is perhaps the 928 but that is a completely different class of car.
Surprisingly practical for the type of car it is, I reckon. A big plus in some circumstances.
The 924 is not really 'famous' for anything, other than being cheap. Doesn't cost much to buy one... but then it's often two to three times the purchase price to get it in good running order, not counting serious bodywork, if it needs it (unless you're happy driving a beater P.O.S. ). And you're left with an oddball car that a Toyota Yaris wouldn't be scared of at the lights Still, people lust after Ford Model A's (who am I kidding, I do, too!). So it's a matter of opinion.
Certainly, when you're driving a good one, it does have that certain something about it -what's the French? I know how to say it but not spell it...
And it's a bargain as a platform to build a serious hi-po beast, if you're willing to spend the dosh and the time (few are). Is that what you're looking for? _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Well Khal, I'm going to argue

Very good result for the humble 924. Le Mans, that's what I would call a racing heritage. _________________ Mikko

I knew someone would. Was expecting morghen, actually...
Fair call. They did try to race it... once... But as I said;

Did you happen to check the scoreboard for that race? What beat the toofah?
If I remember correctly, one of my countrymen was going to pilot the car in the '81 race. Never happened for some reason. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Thanks for the welcome guys!!!!!!!
I can't afford any Flat 6 Porsche at the moment, so the 924 will have to do now. I'm still busy reading up all the engine swops etc, if any of my questions are not answered, then I'll ask |

@Khal: haha ! he got to you first this time
the 924 is not a high performance car...but the high end late models(like CGT upwards) can scare the crap out of you and keep you on adrenaline when WOTing them. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits
