The speedo, tacho and temp/fuel dials on the 924 have a cone shape... does anyone sell flat glass for these? or is it possible to just make them out of perspex or something?

also..

The rings or bezels that hold the cone in place... can they be bought new? or is there a way to remove and refit these without screwing them up???

sarbirus, it is pretty easy. When I get round to doing my dials again, I will also do the same for the ones in the center console and do the dials on them.. I am considering starting the production of sets of these, but I will have to look into it and post some pics of the finished results to see if you all like them.. It will consist of faces for all the gauges inc the ones in the middle..

Here is mine without the odd looking cone. Made them out of perspex..

Funny thing is: I was speaking to Fezza575 about it this morning

Pic below:

Is that what you had in mind?

Awesome interior sparky!! Those flat gauges really cleanup the interior. I can't even begin to count how many people ride in my car and ask about the funny gauges.

Its one part of the interior I dont like on my 924, the 924 turbo or my early 944.

On the turbo, I am not sure if I will keep it 100% standard, but on the 924 lux and the early 944 I am thinking of playing around with a friend laser vinyl cutting and printing machine to make up some dial backings.

Thinking about it, getting some flat plastic should not be too hard, cutting it into perfect circles might be a bit of a challenge for me (was never good with model kits or DIY)

But the real challenge I have is getting the bezzels off in one bit without bending and screwing them up.

Ideally I would probably go for having a slightly different bezzel, like a silver grey, or even polished/chrome. But I know from another dial I once tried to remove the bezzel on, I am likely to make a mess of it.

Any tutorials out there in internet land for doing this????

Yep your right Fezza, funny we were just talking about them this morning..

Well folks.. here is the info:

I am planning to re-do all my faces as I am not 100% happy with them, and I plan to do them in vinyl which should look pretty neat.. I will make templates for all the main gauges including the smaller ones in the center console, that way everything will match. If you guys want I will put them up on the website, as always with a better price for the board guys

That way you could choose your color combos ect. I will put the LED's that are currently being discussed in at the same time.. getting the rings off is pretty easy with some patience.. Also as for cutting the perspex. Its kids play. It needs to be close but not perfect. The edges of the perspex will not be seen as it is covered by the ring

I plan to get started on this once I get the LED's over here and will buy some more perspex and do the center gauges at the same time.. I can take alot of detailed pics of the process if that will help I still have to buy the complete set of LED's though, but once I do it will be done pretty fast.. Also ill cut everything on the plotter so there will be no worries with cutting the holes in the faces for some of the instruments..

Ill have a look at the prices for all the LED's in the morning so I can finish off this area of the car

FINALLY an area where I can give input!

Cheers,
SparkY

I am liking the direction of which this thread is heading

When installing the new vinyls on the gauges be sure to take plenty of pics for instructions on how to best fit these.

i Cant wait....I love the look of the white gauges, i think its a really highlight of the interior

Cheers

On my 941, I want to keep the stock green and orange-faced main gauges, as well as the stock oil pressure gauge. However, I am planning to add a voltmeter and boost gauge in my A-pillar pod, and I want to replace the stock location clock with an oil temp gauge. Sparky, will you be able to reproduce the stock 931 green and orange scheme as well?

Did I miss something, or what are the LED's for?

When do you think you will have them all done?

Once I get what I want in my head I become really impatient, like a kid!

The LEDs are replacements for the anemic stock lights in all of the instrument panels, gauges, dome lights, door lights, etc. See this thread for details.

It seems to me like there was a group buy on flat glass sets some years ago. May have been on RennList if not here. There were even some spare sets that were advertised for sale by the person who organized the group buy.
