yes they once made the 4 bolt phonedials, i could have gotten a set for $200 in mint cond. I am pissed now cause i cant find them ANYWHERE!!! That would be the reason i went to the 5 lug setup.

Look at my mighty 16" 928 phonedials. Aren't they reason enough to do the 5-bolt swap? Well, maybe not MY phonedials. Get your own!

IMHO there are two good reasons to upgrade to the 4 wheel disks. As Gohim says, one is to get rid of having to adjust the brakes. Although, I find that a minor issue, because I only adjust mine every three or four years. The wear is really minimal in the rear. The other is to get the ventilated rotors on the front. The solid disks on the four lug are very prone to fade. The only cheap way to do this conversion is to buy a parts car complete with wheels. You can find a ragged 944 with engine problems for $300 or so. All that said, I still haven't upgraded, because the drums are adequate for my needs, and I am generally lazy.

When I decided to perform the disc brake conversion, I was driving my 924 2K-3K miles a month, and was adjusting the brakes every 4-6 weeks to keep them high and tight.

The brake conversion isn't that hard, and it doesn't take that long. It can be done in less than a day, even if you stop to repack the cv joints.

You are right about the price of basketcase 944 cars. Down here is SoCal, 944s are being abandoned by their owners when they need clutch, transmission, or engine work. Granted, the ones that I have seen have generally been in poor physical condition, and the ones that I have been offered lately had salvage titles, but a cheap 944 parts car might be the best way to get the parts necessary.

Just keep in mind that if you choose to go this way, you will probably end up rebuilding the calipers, and replacing the caliper hardware, and pads, driving the cost of the conversion back up. On the other hand, you will have an example to compare to when you start the conversion work, you won't have to run out to look for wheels inmmediately, and you can sell off the spare 944 parts when you are done, and end up with a profit, instead of expense for the conversion.
