Loving your work!

I have just had the head of my N/A and it's a real heart in mouth moment the first time you turn it over!

It didn't help that I had the cam pulley on backwards though, good job the N/A is none-interferance Runs alot better with the cam timing somewhere near correct...

Cheers! The sense of achievement is most gratifying. Luckily Sean and I cut our teeth on VAG/Porsche non-interference engines otherwise this thread could have been a different story!

P.s. we're originally from your area - Lytham to be precise! Small world isn't it.

Small world indeed! I managed to rebuild the head on the Elise OK but that only went together one way! Who puts timing marks on both sides of a pulley

EFI next...

Nah, they aren't that bad, just need looking after.

The rev-it-from-cold-brigade kill them in no time at all but if you warm it up properly (It takes 15mins+ mind!) then the good ones last for ages. Thermostat setup (On the engine intake) doesn't help either....

Mostly it is down to how much the assembly line guy had to drink the night before. If the liners are wonky then there is no hope and head gaskets can last less than 100 miles...

I challenge to drive an Elise hard and not enjoy yourself... Then you just put up with it's dodgy build quality, lack of trim, noise, hissy fits, head gaskets, servicing, Lotus service, etc, etc....

Yeah, a friend of mine just got rid of his Elise. I had to put with him wingeing over the whole sorry saga...

I'm sorry to have to say this, but I think it's just a cheapo meter that doesn't zero properly...

Most likely, dammit! I've mailed the supplier to complain.

Good for a laugh, but I don't expect they'll replace it for a better one...

They're going to replace it with another TIM unit. As long as it zeros it'll be fine for my purposes ;o)
