I was thinking it would be interesting to learn more about our cars original sticker and option prices. If anybody has their original bill of sale or window sticker with options and prices listed it would be great if we could organize it by year and add it to a permanent "original prices" area on this website. I've read somewhere that my early 1977 924 listed for over $9000. Anyone got any good info?

Well, sticker for my 78 n/a with very few options was 10,995. Basically, the same price as a new Corvette.

| I have the original sticker for my '79 924 Sebring. I have the window sticker at home so these prices are not exact to the dollar. The total car price was about $16,700 and I think the Sebring package made up about $1000 of that. I'm only the second owner of the car. I bought it in 1990 with 22,000 miles and it now has about 43,000 on it. |

$16000 in 79' is about 40,000 in todays dollars.
would it be fair to say that the 924 was the 'boxster' of the late 70s?

From "Illustrated Porsche Buyers Guide" by Dean Batchelor:
"In 1976, West German models were sold for DM 23,240 ($8,900), and the base price of the 1977 model in the United States was $9,395. The optional removable roof panel was $330; air conditioning, $548; front and rear anti-roll bars, $105; metallic paint, $295; and three radio speakers and antenna, $105. The American models were designed to meet all U.S. air pollution standards.
Touring Package I, consisting of triple speakers, leather-covered steering wheel and six-inch-wide alloy road wheels for 185/70 HR-14 radials, was $345. Touring Package II, with headlight washers, rear window wiper and right-hand outside mirror, was another $240." |

Mike,
I grew up in Tyrone, attended PSU (aerospace engineering) 69 to 73, was a PSU staff member from 74 to 78.
Yes I drove my new 77 924 out of the showroom, after trading in my 70 914. On the way home it overheated!

I have the window sticker for my 81 924 Weissach Special Edition around here somewhere.
In 1981 the base 924 in CA was around $20K. The 931 was around $25K. The Special Edition Price was about the same as the 931.
In 1982 when the 944 was introduced, the Factory Price in CA was $18,995. 924 sales were already falling like a brick, and the introduction of the 944 finished off the 924. That's when Porsche withdrew the 924 from sales in the US.
Up until close to 1985, the waiting list for a new 944 at the Porsche Dealer was close to 1 year. Some of the Dealers were selling them at $30K-$35K, and if you were will to pay that much, the waiting list was shorter, but still closer to 2-3 months.
The 924 was a good car in 1977-78 at $9K. But even then it was at the high end for a car with the performance that it offered. At $20K in 1981, there were plenty of cars for sale for less, that would do more.
The same thing happened for the 944 a few years later. I remember looking at new 944s in 1988, and they were priced at $40K, while the asking price for a 924S climbed to $35K.
The last new 924S models that I saw never sold anywhere near sticker price, and they were sold well after the end of the model year. |

I have the original sticker for my 1987 924S and it is $25,316.00 with the options of charleston radio $484.00, small diameter steering wheel $145.00. and electric sunroof $869.00. In 2001 dollars it comes to around $41,000.00. In circled print next to the MSRP is the price of $21,400 so they must have discounted it. I'm the second owner by the way, just now turning over 40,000 miles probably tomorrow.
