Hi all,

I have an 1988 924S Special Edition with the grey/burgundy pinstripe flannel interior. The seats are completely trashed, as the flannel material is not very robust, and has worn away to the foam. The car was like this when I bought it 4 years ago, and I simply put some cheap autozone seat covers over the seats.

After going through several sets of ugly, poor fitting sets of generic seat covers, I am ready to do something more. I need to keep the seats completely stock because of the class that I autocross the car in. So, here are the options that I see:

1) Pay a professional upholstery shop to recover the seats in a similar manner as factory - Big $$$$
2) Buy some premade replacement vinyl upholstery panels and install them myself - ~ $250 on ebay

3) Buy some premade vinyl seat covers that look kinda ill-fitting ~ $195 on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=110130330988&rd=1&rd=1

Anyone else ever had this same quandry?

Also - If I were to order some of this premade stuff, what sort of 944 seats are the 924S similar to? I used to have an 1985/2 944, and those seats were definately not the same as the seats in my current car. The 944 seats had a different slider mechanism, the recliner levers were located much higher up on the seat and there was one lever on each side of the seat, and the bolstering seemed a little larger and firmer. So, are the 924S seats the same as an early 1983-86 944, or are they a different animal altogether?

Jon

You might try getting some out of an early model 924 Sebring, they have flannel seats, I don't know exactly what kind of levers and things are on them, but it would be worth looking into.

Kaos,

I have the same car. The original material isvery thin and even the door panels didnt hold up well over the years. Honestly what I would do is find someone that is selling a set of early black 944 seats or even out of another 924S. Most stock autocross rules allow update and backdate, and the only difference would be the color. You could probably get a decent set of seats for $100 or so, or even better a set of sports seats.
