3/4 or below no leaking. Full I get a leak from above on the passenger side of the tank. I suspect the connector at the filler neck. Any thoughts and what might my next step be? At the present I just keep if below 3/4 of a tank and no issues. Anyone seen this issue also?

Thanks

My '87 leaks, but on the driver side when full. Last week I pulled the carpet/cover and exposed the filler tube. Not a fun job by the way! Do not see any evidence of prior leakage in that area. So, it's decision time on whether to pull the tank and look for leaks, or button it up and put 8 gallons in it every 200 miles! More if I keep my foot into it. Gas hits the muffler though, and that's a bit disconcerting.

At the moment I am just keeping it below 3/4 of a tank as I wait to see what others have done. I have no apparent leaks beyond what I have already described. Still, a gas leak is not something to leave unattended as the consequences could be quite severe. I plan on asking my mechanic his opinion when it goes in for the timing belt adjustment. Once you make up your mind I would appreciate hearing what you decided. I'll pass on what my mechanic suggests as well. I am not due in till June or so so it might be a bit unless something changes.

Thanks for the thoughts

Lynn

It was such a nice day out yesterday, that I put the filler tube back together and left the rest. Well, with the windows open, and the sunroof in the garage, I could smell gas while on the highway. Must have pulled the fumes up thru the filler tube hole in the rear deck. So, hmmmm, there must be a reason for that, even with the tank at 1/2 by the time I got home.

quote="RC"]Is the fuel smell most prominent after you fill the tank?
Had this problem too and the culprit was the 150mm long section of 50mm ID (not 2") hose joining the tank to the filler neck. The original has an internal synthetic liner that once comprimised causes further deteriation of the rubber.
This is easily replaced by removing the filler neck. May just save a heap of work but obviously you are better off replacing all the hoses, and Ozzies method is at least a weekend quicker then the haynes!
LOL.

I have the same problem. I have taken the whole filler neck off only to find that the fuel flows across the top of the tank from something on the other side. There is a hose in that area which I hope is the problem but I've never been able to drop the tank. I just don't fill it up all the way...
