So guess what happens when you think that you're setting your torque wrench to foot-pounds when you're really reading Nm?...
...well, with no warning at all and a sudden snap that makes you jump, you split one of your camshaft caps right in two and crack your head, that's what! Always nice giving a 15 ft.lb. system 90 ft.lb.
So anybody got any ideas?
Question 1: Will a later 931 head bolt up to a 924? I know the plugs are on the other side, but do they differ in any other ways like manifold bolt patterns? I figure that the two heads would cost a similar amount and might as well get the better performance. I may be wrong on the "cost the same amount" part though.
Question 2: Does anyone know where I can get either a 924 or 931 (assuming it will bolt up) head? I'm in Washington.
Question 3: About how much will this cost me?
This is for Lon's car (posts as "Warped"). It's a 76 1/2 Martini Edition. I think the car definitely has some promise for running well. The internals look really good--I mean, lookED really good...
Also, for same car, what are transmission options? He wants to go from four speed to five speed. What would that take and how much should it cost?
Thanks a lot guys. I'd love to get a hold of these parts so I can get back there and redeem myself for that moment of idiocy! |

Ouch... We've all been there though, except for me. I don't make mistakes
Yeah, it can be done. I'm not sure about the bolts and stuff, but they used the same block, so I assume everything should hook up right. While you have the head off, P&P it, and you'll see some really nice gains. I have seen reports of 35% better flow, crazy...
My advice would be ask someone who has a lot of 931s... Hmm, who has a lot of 931s... |

| What's included with those heads and what was done at the shop? Any P&P work? Camshaft/caps/etc. included? I'm really interested. |

You can not just bolt up a 931 head and expect any performance gains. In fact the performance will be worse. The compression ratio with out a turbo blowing is real low and would be even worse with the stock 924 block. So you will need to swap out the pistons or crank or both in order to get performance out that kind of set up. Read the acticles on my site under 924 power tricks to get ideas.

Yeah, I've heard reports it drops your compression by 1 or 2 points. However, combine this with a stroker kit and 12:1 compression pistons, and it'll be pretty nice at 10-11:1
You could run a pretty wild cam, and make some pretty serious power that way, but it's $1300 plus core for the kit. Hey Eric, I was going through some of the tech articles on your site, and they said EuroRace carries a 400cc stroker kit. That is a 20% bump in displacement, and you can do a high compression rebuild at the same time...
Do you know much about Eurorace? |

If it's a 924 head you want, I have a 1979 head, ported, polished. Dwak also has a head or two around.
After all, as the man says, you can't get too much head. |

| Call an outfit in Auburn called Heads Up Inc. (1 800 600 4546) They specialize in Aluminum head work only. If the crack is not to bad maybe they can weld it. Anyway, it is worth a free call. About 2.5 hours down I-5 for you. Hope crack is not in water jacket. |
