not your average hose leaks either! ie i read the faq i think i saw someone mention this before, but i couldn't dig anything up in the archives.

i've got a leak coming from "that round part" of the tank on the very bottom that has the line out to the fuel pump. it looks like there are a couple 10mm or so bolts around a disc. and it's leaking fuel from around there.

is there a gasket to replace there? what exactly are those bolts holding in?

keep in mind this is a '77 with no in-take pump. i'm going to stop over to my parts shop tomorrow to see if they show a gasket around there. grr, i hate messing with fuel!

Lets try that again. The 77 has the hole as a clean out port, and I believe to replace the fuel strainer sock. I took mine apart when I pulled the tank to replace the fuel lines. There are plastic or rubber washers that fit between the tank and the screws. If all the screws are removed, the round plate comes off. there is a large gasket that fits between the tank and the plate, made from the same material as the washers. It looks like these washers and gasket would be available at Porsche. But first of all, I would drain the tank through the pump hose, then try to syphon the remaining gas. then get some kind of sealer that promises to be gasoline proof. I believe that Permatex # 2 would work for you.

The gasket is #477 201 229 and lists for $3.37 at Porsche.

It would be easier to replace the seal then. While you are in there, replace the strainer sock, if they are available at Porsche

hi guys-
apparently the gasket is the only part that is still available. the gaskets for the bolts and the strainer are not. the bolt gaskets should be easy to find a replacement, we'll see what the strainer looks like.

thanks,
