While working on my car today, I tried to take off the battery cables so I can replace them with brand new ones.
However, I was not able to take off the 3 foot long cable? How do you get/reach down there to take it off, and once you are able to reach down there...how do you take it off?
From what I could tell, I followed the cable and saw that it was just attached to the equipment in the front end of the car. Where the fan belt and the cooler are?
As you can tell I'm learning as I go with this, so please be kind
Thanks |

| Use a 3/8 rachet, about a nine inch extension (a 3" and 6"), and a 17mm or 19mm socket( can't remember which). Disconnect the negative cable from the battery before you start or you will have lotsa of fireworks! |

Thanks,
I may just have to get under the car again, but I'm not sure I see where I can use the a rachet? It looks or feels like it just goes into some sort of metal casing? Do I need to take of the casing, before I can use my rachet to take off the cable? |

| The metal casing around the starter is the heat shield. You should be able to get the wires without taking it off but if you want to make it easier take it off. |

I think if you take off the alternater, you can then get at the cable with along 3/8s drive exstension socket, you might not even need the exstension, not sure here.
