Does a 225 tire fit OK on a 6" rim on the rear of a 924? Is this too much tire for a 6" rim?

Thanks,

Jason

Yeah, that's too much tire for the rim. I have 205's on 6" fuchs and they look like crap. They handle ok but not great. I think even 205's should be put on a 7" rim.

Aren't you the guy who just bought new wheels from Tweeks? What's up? -Troy

Yes I did buy new wheels from tweeks (actually off a guy who bought them from tweeks). The rims are the 993 Turbo style 1-pc. They are 17x7.5 and 17x9. The tires are 205/50-17 & 245/40-17. I had to roll my fenders to make these work, but they work! I have no way of telling the offset on the wheels currently as they are installed. I have called Tweeks and asked them the offset question, but their sales people don't know the offset either. Next time I have the wheels off I will post what is on the hub as far as ET. My guess is that they are 46/47 offset. These are aftermarket replicas and could have some unique offsets.

Anyway, the 225 on 6's is a question for a friend.

Thanks, Jason

The stock tire size for my car is 205/55 VR 16 on 6Jx16 wheels. That's what I have now. The previous owner had 225/50 VR 16's on the rear on those same 6" wheels. That was a little too much and rubbed on the left side fender.

do you have any pictures of these massive 245's?! i'd like to see them. and a 225/50 will fit just fine on a 6" rim, it's better to use a 7" but you're not going to have any problems for sure.

16x6" is made for 205/55 tires. Troy i'm surprised you're having a problem with this size. this was a stock size for 931's and 924S's with 16" wheels. what kind of tires are you using?

I've run 225/50 on 6' rims on a 931. No problems with clearance. However they bulge a bit and if you really push the car (as in racing) you find that the tire and rim move a bit. What seesm to happen is the tire grips and the car moves slightly sideways on the sidewall. From inside it feels like the beginning of a slide. From behind I've been told it looks as if I'm going to have a big off.
Once you get used to it it was useful on the track as the guys in the 951 and 911's woudl instintively back off when they saw this happen - meanwhile I'd keep the boot in and drive away only to be caught at the next corner.
For road use you didn't even notice the squirming around.

On my 6 x 16 Fuchs, I'm running Nitto NT 450 205/55 - 16's. Sure they work, but they feel soft and look like they belong on a 7" rim. All four have 36mm offset and the rears have 21 mm spacer. The rear left rubbed the fender lip until I rolled it. I think since I just lowered my car, as soon as I readjust the camber, it will rub again. I need thinner spacers! -Troy

I ahve been using 205s on my 15 in rims and never had a problem with my track car. On my 16 in rims I use 205 and no problems exist.
Remember that we do not have a lot of HP and Jim Pasha used to suggest that the max should be 195s because it takes less hp to move them.
