In preparation runs for my last two trackdays I attempted to blip the throttle when braking and changing gear (heel and toe) to match engine speed to gear speed. I have used this technique sucessfully before.

Either with the ball of my foot on the brake or the accelerator it was impossible to perform this manouvre smoothly because the accelerator is not in line with the brake. Whats the solution for those guys that race? Just brake early, let the clutch absorb the difference in engine speed and re-settle the car before cornering? I wish I could brake later than I am at the moment.

I found the exact opposite

My 924S is the first car I've had where I've been able to get some heel/toe working. A bit easier on the road where engine speeds are lower & everything happens slower, but still reasonably easy on the track.

I thought the long accelerator pedal helped - I use the toes/ball of foot on brake, heel/side of heel on throttle.

Yeah, I do it side-to-side. I have a non-stock accel pedal in the racecar, but stock in the turbo, and no problem heel-n-toeing in either.

What exactly is the nature of your difficulty? Is it the height of the pedals, or the gap between the two? Obviously if it's the gap the easy solution is aftermarket pedals; if it's the height then some adjustment may need to be made.

No the height is great, when I have the brake say 80% to burried, there is still a gap between the brake and the accelerator distance wise. That is, the accel is further away from me than the brake. Maybe ill try to move my foot up to the top of the brake pedal where the accel will be closer...

I do the same as Vaughan. As an aside, hard to be sure, your description sounds as though the accelerator pedal may be low.

I'd have to go with John Brown and Vaughan - I find the pedals are exactly where I want them for heel and toe operation. I don't actyually think about it but it seems to work. I'll try to remember next tiem I'm out as to what I do

have you got stock pedals? If the accelerator pedal has been replaced at some time in the past and not hinged from the floor this could be causing your problem

No its hinged from the floor, I'm gonna do some practice tonight and find out whats wrong with my technique. I think maybe im just used to the arrangement on my old car where the three pedals were all at the same distance away from the seat.

Ok Ive got it going on now. I didn't realise youd have to float your heel so high up onto the brake pedal.
