Hi
My 924 NA engine keeps flooding. The cold start valve is not working, I have good spark and fuel reaching the cylinders (obviously) with good timing. After a long term renovation, I recently had to adjust the mixture of the fuel distributor to start the car and now there is a strong tendency for the engine to flood if its doesn;t catch within the first few attempts.
Do I still have a problem with the fuel mixture setting ? Is it likely that I could akso have a porous rubber intake manifold link?
Any help appreciated thanks
Ian
77 924 NA (but with 82 engine).

| I had a similiar problem but instead of messing with the fuel mixture I changed out my injectors. The ones I had dripped and had a bad spray pattern. |

| could it be the air sensor plate is not returning to the off position, I mean if it is hanging up (sticking ) more fuel will flow and cause flooding, or maybe it just needs to be adjusted. |

Hi
Thanks Roger and all, a walk through procedure would be helpful. I have examined the spray pattern of the injectors before, but I;m not certain what is a 'good' pattern and what is not. Guides say to look for a symmetrical cone shape? Is that a thin cone or a wide cone? My injectors give a mixture of a fine mist and a fairly direct spray..!

i checked with my shop foriegn affairs in pompano beach fl great guys and the easiest way is to get one of those little mirrors they look like the ones the dentist uses you can use it to look into the auxilary air regulator without removing it there is a gate valve that should be open when cold if your not sure disconect the auxilary air regulator from the rubber boot and shine a flashlight into it if you see the light come out the other side if you see the light its open as the car warms up it should close slowly it may take 5 min or so depending upon the temperature if the car is flooding the gate should be closed not alowing extra air to enter this additional air is required during warm if you cant get the mirror in place to look into the auxilary air regulator then remove it and place it into the freezer it should open then heat it up with a hair dryer and it should close |

the spray should be a fine mist a direct spray could be wetting the spark plugs and preventing them from firing and the car from starting i replaced all four of mine because the car had 100k and it seemed like a good investment ill send you the old ones no charge if you want them however i heard that they can be cleaned using ultrasonic waves i have not tried this but i will the next time buy a small ultrasonic jewelry cleaner fill it with techron fuel system cleaner place an injector into it an run it for a few awhile it should work and it beats mailing the injectors to california to have them cleaned but have not tried this its just an idea of mine
it sounds like you have done this but remove the coil wire then pull the injector with a pair of pliers then place it into a clear coke bottle the spray should be a fine mist and in a cone or triangle shape test all four injectors if some of the injectors are not spraying properly then unscrew them and connect it to another fuel line if the injector is still not spraying properly this will confirm that the injector is the problem and not something else also check the condition of the injector seals |

Ian,
Recommend you lean your fuel mixture back to where it was initially and fix your cold start injector problem. Richening your fuel mixture to get it to start when cold is going to cause it to flood as it warms up.

Thanks guys.
Will check all injectors and lines and reset the mixture to original setting.I'm leaning towards picking up new injectors if mine are really bad.Anyone know of a cheap source in the UK? Best I have found so far is £22 from eurocarparts.
Thanks again
Ian

Roger: Cheers M8 ill have a look at that this weekend if its not raining.
badenkb: Have you tried PH sportscars, there a specialist porsche dismantlers near Derby i've had load of bits from them. Obviously they will be second hand but there stuff is not crap, they will exchange as well if there is a problem. Phone 01332 799298 i can give you directions too if you were relatively close.
