| Can the 16 valve heads from the 944s just be swapped over to the 924s? If so, what parts are needed to do the swap over? The head and ecu or the intake and exhaust manifold and alot more complicated things? |

| My guess is that you'll need a different intake, intake manifold, and exhaust, and computer. |

| So if the 16 valve head conversion isn't cost effective then how much power would expect from a 924s with a mildly port and polished head (no valve job), new DME chip, k&n air filter and a nice free flow exhaust (low restriction cat, 2.5 inch exhaust, high flow muffler)? |

People have been screwing with the 944 engine for over 20 years, and there isn't much power to be had cheaply.
You might get a few hp from a reputable company's DME chip (somewhere between 5-10hp with a change in the power curve if you believe the advertising), but the fallout would be the requirement of premium grade fuel. You get nothing from the K&N air filter, and maybe 5hp from a well designed free flow exhaust system. |

I would not waste the money on a port and polish, unless the head was already off for another reason (blown head gasket or bent valves), and the work was going to be done a a professional service (ie: extrudehone).
Allowing an idiot unexperienced in working on 944 heads with a grinding tool to simply grind on the head will not yield any improvement and could actually lower performance (lowering the flow rate will lower performance). You need more flow with the same or improved flow rate. and you need an experienced 944 technician to get this. |
