|

I was sure that I had posted something about this but a search showed that the post was in my head and not on the board. With lots of new board members I'll give an overview of how to include pics in your posts.
First off, we don't have a facility for you to upload pictures to the hosting servers. One of these days I'll get around to setting it up - shortly after installing the supercharger I have on the 924 and building the ultimate 931 so I suggest no breath-holding.
OK, here's how you do it:
1. Copy your picture(s) onto a publicly accessable area on an Internet-connected server. This is the "hard" part. You need to be able to display the pic on your browser by typing in something like http://www.planb.net.au/Peter/betterthansex.jpg and having only the picture display. Now all of you who pay money for your Internet access or who use an educational institution should have been allocated some disk space where you can put your personal web page. That's where you want to store your pictures.
If you access the Internet from your place of work when you should be doing other things, you need to be a bit more creative. What you're looking for is public/members webspace that you can use to pull up a single pic without having to look at the ads and click on a thumbnail. This basically rules out Yahoo and a lot of others. I'm told that rennlist works - could someone help me out here with suggestions.
2. Now that we've got the pic(s) onto a server you need to include them in your post so you can dazzle all the jaded old-timers on the board.
Just add (where the http:// blah blah blah.jpg is the address of your pic) where you want the pic to appear in the post. Make sure that you put the around the address of your pic, that way the image will appear in your post, if you don't you'll just get a link to the pic which will appear in a new browser window when the link is clicked on (this is actually a good thing if you are linking to a very large picture or some video).
That's it! If you want to know what other cute things you can do in your posts just click the FAQ link near the top of the page.
One suggestion:
Don't make the pictures too big if they are stored on a public server or one that has a small or undersized pipe to the Internet. Basically what will happen is that the whole topic will take ages to load because it is waiting on your picture.

after playing around in another thread I found that you can include a "thumbnail" in your posts as a link to the full sized pic in your posts.
It looks like this

and what you have to enter looks like this:

which may look slightly scarey but is basically

and it looks cool too. You could even include it in your signature and really impress the guys.
(bugger! got it wrong)

This is what I mean about the signature thing (not a link but the idea's the same):

Bad idea,
I mean it looks cool, but what will happen to the load time when there's a pic in every signature? |

well, that sig pic was about 2K and we display 15 post per page so worst case is an extra 30K per page. Actually, as the browsers will cache the pics there shouldn't be much of an impact.
If it becomes a problem I can always change the software. |

Ok, but then limit the sig. pics to 1 per signature, loading all 14-16 for some participants would be too much!
