|
|
This past weekend there were 3 2.0 924's duking it out in Round 6 of the 944 Cup at Summit Point Motorsports Park. This was probably the largest field of 944/924 Cup cars assembled to date with 24 and the future looks very bright for the series next season. As always Dave, Ricky, and the Ratcliffe's, made us feel right at home and there was plenty of great food for everyone. It's nice to see all the 944/924 drivers getting to know each other outside of our cars. Hopefully if we can encourage a couple of other 924 racers to join us, maybe we could convince the 944 Cup guys to allow us to have our own championship! Jerry Long was driving John Brown's car, Ryogi Sumida was in his school bus yellow 924 and Ray and myself were in #53. We all had a ball and we also had a lot of fun just getting to know each other and being able to talk shop with other 924 guys! The weather was great! Not a cloud in the sky and it was high 70's. Unfortunately, John Brown's car was having fuel pickup problems all weekend despite his repeated attempts to try to get it to run right. It was great to see at times we collectively pulled together to try to keep all three cars running and made sure to help each other out. Since we were paddocked together, it was very easy to work closely. It was Ryogi's first time on the track and he is definately a quick learner!! By the time I was racing against him on Sunday afternoon, it was clear that he was gaining confidence and was a lot more confortable getting around. For my father and I who split the driving duties, we both posted our fastest times to date! I knocked off two seconds and he knocked off 3 seconds. Ryogi was also right with us and Jerry was not that far off as well. Our cars were pretty evenly matched and it was fun to watch all three out there together. FYI: Our lap times at Summit this past weekend would have put us towards the back of the pack of a typical SCCA ITB race at the same track, but it's a whole lot better than our lap times back in April. The new Hankooks are great and helped drop our lap times 2-3 seconds. Ryogi also has some video that was shot from his car. Maybe we can encourage him to post a clip here to the site? We also have some photos of the three cars but unfortunately my shots came out blury I'll work on posting a couple of shots as soon as I have them. The consensus for next season is to try to run as many 944 Cup events together as possible. We hope we can get one or two more 924's out there to run with us. Come on out and join us!

I had a great time at the Summit Point with all members of 944cup and NASA. Lots of Thanks to Dave Derecola, John Brown, Jerry Long and all members of team Jadczak!
these are few pics;
three 924 racecars ready to go; car 53 is Jadczak's, 55 is JB's and 89 is mine. first picture at http://944cup.stuffypuppy.com/html/11_1_-_11_2_03.html
close-up of Jeremy's third picture at http://944cup.stuffypuppy.com/html/11_1_-_11_2_03.html
close-up of JB-JL owner-driver team second picture at http://944cup.stuffypuppy.com/html/11_1_-_11_2_03.html
and mine, fourth picture at http://944cup.stuffypuppy.com/html/11_1_-_11_2_03.html
The Jadczak team had a battery and the cooling system trouble, JB had the fuel distributor trouble. I drop the whole exhaust system behind the header. But we all managed to run them in the course. Here is the pic of the exhaust system next of the car --- wrong place! sixth picture at http://944cup.stuffypuppy.com/html/11_1_-_11_2_03.html
This was my first time running the Summit Point and I managed to run all practices, qualifies and races without any incidents. More than that, thanks to Jeremy's instruction, I could manage to beat RJ and ended "top 924" award on the race1. Here is the video clip, start of the race1 (no sound) first video at http://944cup.stuffypuppy.com/html/11_1_-_11_2_03.html
Second day was the Jeremy's. Here is the qualify session, I was chasing/following his tail and he ran way.... . Interesting enough both had best qualify times in this sequence at the last lap, together! second video at http://944cup.stuffypuppy.com/html/11_1_-_11_2_03.html
Since mustang hit the tire wall at 9, we had only 4 clean runs in the race2; 2 laps from the green flag and 2 laps at the end to the checker flag. This is the last two laps after "whole course yellow - following the pace car". I tried to catch Jeremy. Because of big boys, I knew he need to slow down some corners and wanted to charge but I also needed to maneuver around big boys and took my momentum out. He was always in front of me. third video at http://944cup.stuffypuppy.com/html/11_1_-_11_2_03.html
Jeremy, you can hear my engine sounded "not so good" and failed to accelerate between 6 and 7, which I mentioned. What do you think, is it just because of my "not having a exhaust system?
At the last, the video clip avoiding to hit a mustang on the qualify run. The driver came to see me to thank not hitting him, nice guy. last video at http://944cup.stuffypuppy.com/html/11_1_-_11_2_03.html

Ryogi, first of all thanks for sharing!!! That video was way cool. My initial response is to ask if your using enough fuel or are you running the car on half a tank, etc? It sounds like it's a fuel pick up problem. We too had problems there with the rear end getting light and it throws the car around. Not to the point where it completely bogs down and you get nothing when you mash the gas peddle. I bet you may encounter similar problems at Beaverun too. You might not be getting enough fuel pressure to the motor and it's starving because the fuel is sloshing around in the tank. I'll ask my father, he probably knows. John, Vaughan, anyone else know what could cause this?
I'm glad the video didn't catch me almost doing a complete 360 down the front stretch on the warm up lap when I was warming my tires. Do you remember that? That would have been embarrising.

360? That is not that bad at all from the back. But now I have to go back to the video and post it You recovered it; successful car control! I can see the similar things in the video from my wheel controls, too.
All tapes are already transfered to avi format. Once I finished the web page layout for this etc, I will find out the way to burn in CD for the avi. Then I will send you the CD. You can see it in the TV/DVD player.
Too many things to figure out. _________________ R.I.P.:a 924 ITA race car |

Hey Vaughan, you should paint it the colors of the old Holbert 924 D Prod car - school bus yellow and navy blue. That would be cool.
Ryogi, looking forward to anything you put together. I Just can't wait until next season!!!! |

Looks like you've blown the allocation on your website. I'd offer to host, but I don't have access to my website at the moment - moving, and switching over to a DSL. Hope to have it up by next week, will get in touch then... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Strange. The resources are still the same place.
Try all from this page.

However, this web page is still under construction.

Hey Andy, what are your plans for next season? How is the car coming and do you think you'll have it ready by next April?

It's still the great unknown if I'll be able to play next year. Every time I think I have a handle on things I discover I have so very far to go.
I have managed to chase down a fuel dizzy (here in town, even!) at an affordable price, so that is a relief. Obviously, I've decided to go the "F" route.
The only thing left in the car is the engine and tranny. They were supposed to be pulled last weekend but we had transportation issues. I don't yet have a trailer, and the person that was loaning me theirs couldn't make it. I'm pulling those things at a friend's shop. In addition to general automotive stuff, he also does GT-1 and Trans-Am. I do some crewing for him.
All the soundproofing and the rubbery rustproofing stuff in the wheel wells has been removed. That was suprisingly easy with a torch and putty knife. My lungs really felt the smoke and fumes.
Been trying to decide between sandblasting it myself or taking it to a place that does it. The local blaster wants $1200 to do all surfaces (inside, outside and bottom), so it appears I'll do it myself. Then I get to learn how to paint. Would have been nice to do that these past few days in the warmth. Might have to haul it over to my friend's paint booth.
I'm close to the time I need to start spending serious money. We'll probably end up building our own cage. That will be the first step after painting the interior. I don't think the shocks will be eBay-able. The Weltmeister camber plates will have to wait. I have been picking thru the eBay parts chasing down useful items.
All of my in-progress pictures are still in the camera. I'll get that roll processed and scanned later this week so you see what is happening.
The paving equipment arrived this week at Nelson's, too! |
