Why do people who drive old school 911's come along and tell me im not driving a porsche??
We all know the 924's beginnings, being the enthusiasts we are. I told this guy its history and porsches involvement. but i get:
| Quote: | | "dude... nothing accept the 911 has ever been all porsche..even the 928 has soem vw on it...but u have a hot girl on ur porfile so i said this just to get u to reply..lol..( i know 928 is pure porsche) 944 is close but just doesn;t look porsche...( my opinon pls dont; get mad) and 924 was just for relations with vw... and sales..or else the loss of the 928 or even at that time...the 911...oh what a mess that woulda been, so i thank the 24/44 for saving the 911/928..." |
I know i shouldnt let this guy get to me but 'theyre' everywhere!!! _________________ '86 944 |

| Most Germans are rumored to rather have a 928 or 944 Turbo for a quick safe trip down the Autobahn. I've also heard that they think 911's are for show off Americans. |

Hey guys, don't worry about the dips. As I got out of my 931 in a liquor store parking lot a few weeks back, another guy was just getting out of a very new 911, painted white pearl. As he passed, I said, "I will trade you." He said that he was thinking of getting rid of "it," as it was too flashly. He said that he had two other 911's. He then started asking all kinds of questions about my 931, and finished up with "thats a very rare car." So, not all 911 owners, think the water pumpers are not Porsches, it is just the dips that just bought there first Porsche. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |

Quite frankly, the only time I ever run into this "911 or nothing" attitude is online. The funny thing is that there is snobbery even within the 911 crowd (it seems some 911's are more equal that others).
Whenever I actually meet another Porsche driver in person, it doesn't matter if he/she is driving a 911, a Boxster, or a beat up 912, they are usually just as fascinated with my cars as I am with theirs.
A true Porsche enthusiast simply can't walk by another Porsche (regardless of the model) without stopping to have a look and overall Porsche people are a pretty cool bunch in my experience. _________________ -Stu

Having dismantled my share of Porsche I can tell you that all through the 70's and early eighties VW parts can be found in all Porsches. That idiot doesn't his a$$ from a hole in the ground. It's people like that that will part out a perfectly fixable car because they can't afford to fix it. I get excited about stupid people sorry. For the most part 95% of the Porsche owners are GREAT PEOPLE! _________________ Life is to short to be looking for something? |

I have a basic question I would ask all 911 owners. "Why is it the 911 resembles the "Folks Wagon?" Created by Porsche as a car for the people and also has the same engine placement, not to mention the original VW and the 911 have the same body design just the lines are varied all the same concept! I never get an answer that changes my opinion! Face it the 911 is a blown up VW PERIOD!!!! Now for our beloved model. Was it not designed by Porsche for VW? And yes there are VW and Audi components on them but what about the body design? Where does it even closely resemble a VW!! Fact is the 924/44 is the only true Porsche for the fact that it is it's own design not a copy from VW or Audi and the suspension and drive line is absolutely exclusive to our model! What other car has the timing belt issue on late cars, a almost 50/50 weight distribution and a suspension system that has been labled as the best there is for a stock factory car....In short I feel that it has been just a matter of EGO and who has the coolest most expensive car! And the 911 is an "upper class" car and ours are the "middle class" and that is the real root of the differences between us.......it is all about ones ego!! But heck this is just my humble opinion! And very proud to own a 924S, especially when I pass 911's on the track! D _________________ Dal Glassinger |

IIRC in the 70's and 80's wasn't Porsche/Audi/Vw all one big happy family?
Much like GM: Corvette/Nova/Chevette. |

Lets see how this goes. Tomorrow I'm attending a PCA RMR Oktoberfest at Prestige Imports. Porsches, Beer, and German food. how can ya go wrong? I just hope everyone is civil towards my 924S because I am fairly sure I'll have the cheapest car there. but hey, it's still a porsche, and it kicks ass! just cuz it's a hatchback doesn't mean it's not a Porsche! _________________ werd B. |

The 911 was an evolution of the 356, which was in itself a gussied up Beetle. I love the 356, I even attended the last Bull at Denny Akers place in Bothell WA, which was a blast, I might add. The 356 had a VW engine, the 1100cc flat 4, which enventually made it up to 2000ccs, in the 356B Carreras, of which there were several on hand
The very first Porsche had a VW engine. The 911 had a 6 cylinder version of that engine, which was the first true Porsche engine, well, unless you count the 356s with the twincam carrera engine... So we're talking about modified VW components here, not just the layout and shape of the car, but the engine and suspension!
I like to explain this to high horse 911 types _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

well in my experience I've had some 911's acknowledge me and some ignore me - those that ignore probably don't recognise the 924 through lack of make/model knowledge...
but what i feel is - the badge says Porsche, the (driving) experience says Porsche, the condition the car is in after 25yrs says Porsche and the looks of admiration from kids and adults when i pass or pull up says Porsche. |

All I have to say is BOOOOO to VW for ousting the 924 design in favor of the Scirocco, but WEEEEEE to Porsche for going through with it.
You all probably know this already, but it was the 924 that kept Porsche in business through the late 70s and early 80s, therefore the sole reason they are still selling fine German engineering.
And as for the comment about "I'd rather drive a 928 than a 911 on the Autobahn", I agree. Ya know what driving a pre-88 911 is like? Try throwing a dart backwards... _________________ '80 931 FOR SALE

When I joined the PCA (Allegheny Region) I was a little aprehensive about my 924 not being accepted (I was new to Porsches then)...when I arrived at my first Dine & Drive I got in line with the convoy and when I got to the "Porsche Parking Only" I was ushered right into my spot beside a 928 and a 911....Now, my car isn't A1 condition but she held her own and lots of people came by and looked her over....I wasn't treated any different than the rest....and there were some "fine" cars sitting around me.......I was proud..........the 924, 944, 928, 356, 931, 911, Cayenne, and any other 3 digit number that starts with a 9 is definetly Porsche....regardless of whether they all started out with other cooperating car companies or not......it does say "PORSCHE" on it doesn't it? _________________ 79 924 "Missy Grey" |
