Hey guys,

I was on my way to church this morning to Springfield (20-30minutes away). I was turning onto a road about 2 miles away from my house when I noticed major power loss.
I was slowly going around the corner shifting into forth gear and the power disappeared...
I dropped it into 3rd from 4th and punched it hoping the power would come back up, which it didn't, I was at about 3,000RPM in 3rd. I figured what the hell I'll go for 2nd... pushed the clutch in and the tach flat-lined.

It was dead as I rolled off the side of the road. I tried starting it and it'd crank for a shorter time than normal and then something would catch and the tach would jump to 2 grand and fall again. I never got it started even after jumping the battery to make sure it wasn't dead. It still made the same noise it always does when it's trying to start until whatever caught and made the tach jump so I'd guess the starter is still fine?

Any ideas? Did it finally just roll over and die? It's got about 130,000 miles on it i'd guess... the person who owned it before me would DRIVE the car about 80% of the time they were in it.

Maybe that V8 swap isn't so far off... not good timing at all...

Walk to the nearest gas station, purchase some gas, walk back and pour in tank, restart engine and continue on you way!!!

Seriously, check for fuel to injectors...

Checked the gas gauge... it's 3/4 full of BP Super 93
However... I took the intake off and looked in the throttle body and there's no gas getting injected into it...

Way to go 78 924 N/a

I cranked it over a few times after putting the intake back together and the starter actually turned over after the second try. So the engine isn't locked up... I guess it's going to the mechanic this week.

Anyone else have any input?

the feul pump still comes up when i turn the key. I've heard that the CIS can get "clogged up". Is this true and how do I unclog it?

Thanks!

Just a guess buy injector cleaner might help. If it is already clogged prolly not though. Replace the injector lines maybe.

Do all the basics first. Check for spark and gas.

Like Paul said.....check the basics spark and fuel. If you don`t have spark, check your timing belt and make sure its ok. IF the t-belt broke, you won`t get any spark.

Battery is good. Timing belt is tight. Starter acts rather weird it either cranks normally or grabs (something) and throws or makes the tach appear to jump to 2-4grand. Not getting feul to the fuel body isn't a good sign either...

I hope it didn't throw a rod... because it kind of acts like there's something serious going on. It didn't make any noises when it died though but that doesn't mean alot.

The throttle body isn't going to have fuel injected into it, so not seeing any there isn't helping diagnose things. (Are you sure you've got fuel in the tank? Can you really rely on the gauge?) As Joe said, you can try the starter fluid trick to quickly validate it is a fuel supply issue, but you really need the car to start and run for a few seconds to make that check work with any reliability. Check for spark, ensure your timing marks on the cam and flywheel are as they are supposed to be. If so, the next thing I'd do is to jumper the fuel relay block and pull those injectors to verify fuel is getting to them. The pump making noise is a good thing, but doesn't mean the cylinders are getting what they need.

The injectors, BTW, are in the head, not the throttle body - that's where you'll need to look for fuel. As mentioned, pull an injector, jump the relay, see if fuel comes out. Check for spark. Check your timing marks.

Run a compression check! You seem to have convinced yourself pretty well that you blew the engine. Did you check the oil? What oil pressure did you have as it died?

Sounds like you might need to take it to a mechanic, based on your knowledge of the car, for a final repair, but you'll be far better off knowing what the problem is first. Otherwise it's a good way to get ripped off on an unusual foreign car.

130lkmi isn't that high, really now, it's not a Chevy. My motor had over 135kmi street on it, ran fine, before I re-ringed it. It's now on it's fourth race season, still pulls strong.
